Um to answer your question we "slot personnel" are hoping for a tip on any hand pay and one of $1000 we are hoping for $20 minimum for each floorperson assisting on that payout. We are also expected by our department to achieve a certain amount because we actually do have taxes automatically withheld from our pay for "tip" compliance.

Really? What have you done that you are 'hoping' for a MINIMUM tip? Where are you when I'm walking out the door after losing? You or no one else is there slapping a $20 in my hand!

Yes, taxes are deducted for tips, but it's usually much less than what you actually get.

^^I agree with you. People think they are entitled to a tip these days just because they are there! Paying someone their winnings is part of their job that they are already getting a monthly paycheck for. Don't expect it and then you won't get ticked off when you don't get tipped like you expect just because you are alive.

Tell that to the IRS.

I don't gamble, but I tend to tip generously for pizza delivery, servers, the AAA guy who came to help when my battery died, etc. I consider it good Karma. That said, until very recently I had a lot more disposable income so it was easier to be generous.

Maybe "expect" is a strong word because we also "expect you to maintainance your own machines, win your jackpots, hand pay your own winning and basically do your own everything.... nothing in this world is totally free. Do you think that wonderful lady in the department store is greeting you, starting a fitting room for you and going to get that larger size for you is doing it because she "likes you" no ! she is on commission and is hoping you buy something so her check is increased. How about that excelent real estateman you recommended to you and got you that faboulas home you bought for little of nothin down last year? Hmm guess what his pockets are full anf you are in forclosure. Same goes for your dream car that is on thr back of the tow truck on its way to the you got played yard for auction. Generosity is great when you win and in the case of "winning while gambling" the job states your tips will be a part of your estimated pay. Its not mandatory but appriciated. if you lose...well we usually dont have to do any extra work for you because you leave. But even the IRS consideres your loss and gives you some compensation for it as well as your winnings. Come on now even Oprah tips her audience and gets a write off.

Tip entitlement?

The purpose of the "hand pay" is to prevent cheats, therefore, the attendant is merely doing his job, right?

It's about treating others as you would hope they treat you. Pay it forward. If you win there is nothing wrong with spreading the joy. It's good karma.

When I lived in Tulsa and went to the casino frequently, the slot machines would ring if you won a jackpot of 1200 or more. They did not have people come with the money, though they did write it up and send it to the cashiers who had tip jars waiting. If I won big (say 10-11 grand, I would give them a tip) If I came out even...no

If I win enough to be "hand-paid", I tip at least $20-50...depending on my win. It doesn't hurt me, and it helps them. It's the nice thing to do.
