I just recently learned about Janet Airlines for the first time via an episode of the great new History Channel show "How the States Got Their Shapes." And I gotta tell ya, the whole thing just gave me the biggest case of the heebie jeebies. The idea that there's a top-secret airline based at a top-secret terminal at Las Vegas Airport to funnel top-secret workers back and forth to top-secret Area 51 every day was creepy as hell!! Is Janet Airlines an unkown in Vegas or do people pretty much know about it or what? Is it real?

It's supposed to be a secret. Now that you know about it, they might come for you and whisk you away to Area 51 and do weird things to you. So just don't leave the house for awhile.

It’s as secret as 7-11 and Burger King these days. My first job offer in the valley was for accountant position for EG&G located at the test site. I told them no because I was not up to the daily commute. Then I was told that I was eligible to ride the daily air transport.

I can't believe that the History Channel is just now figuring this out.....Ol George Knapp got FIRED 30+ years ago for talking about it on TV.....this hasn't been top secret in almost 50 years.

It's about the least secret secret I know of around here. The planes have been parked in plain sight along Tropicana for 50 years. I know a lady who flew, or maybe still flies, up to the site everyday on one of those. I even knew one of the pilots. Saw him and his little boy on a commercial flight one time, and I think he was slightly embarrassed that the kid got air sick.

My friend, T.D. Barnes, that runs the site below, was on on the History Channel the other night talking about all that. He said a lot, but he ended by saying he hadn't told them 10% of what goes on at Area 51, and he never will: Home Page - Roadrunners Internationale Declassified U-2 A-12 Projects Aquatone OXCART Area 51

No point in having heebie jeebies over something that's been going on since Jesus was a lad, and everyone in Las Vegas knows about. Before Clinton got caught with his intern under the desk, we had over 10,000 people in Las Vegas working at the combination of Atomic Test Site, Area 51, and Nellis AFB Bombing and Gunnery Range, an area bigger than some states, over in Nye County just over those big hills you see to the north called the Sheep Range. Hard to keep something like that a secret.

The commute was actually a selling point for most EG&G people. Mo'lady always drove whenever she had to go up range, and got paid for it. Most of the test site workers I knew of made a lot of money on travel allowance, so they drove their own cars as much as possible. If they didn't want to do that they rode the bus and slept all the way.
