Moving to Vegas area in March of 2012, been driving taxi in MI, don't want to drive taxi in Vegas, have to find new employment. I saw online, classes to learn how to deal cards, class takes 4-6 weeks. Anyone have any advise on jobs or know about these classes. Im in my 40's, what job area would be good for my age in Vegas area. I have to start anew. I do have very good personal and business references, don't know if this will get me anywhere.
Any advice is appreciated.

Not to sound mean or anything, do not move here. There are no jobs. We have the highest unemployment for a city in the US. Do your research.
Good Luck

I think people willing to hustle and with low expectations can make it, but amazing how many move in with at most a month's cushion. Please don't be someone like that. And please don't tell me those classes you are talking about in dealing cards are purely taught online. That won't work anywhere.

I see card dealers on the strip all the time, they snap the cards three times and hand them to you.

Honestly, as much as I would love to tell you this is the greatest city in the world, you need to heed the warnings others have given here and don't come here on a wing and a prayer. If you don't have a job, this is the last place in the country you want to come.

You do not have to have a job lined up, but you must have savings for a fall back. There are jobs out there as I was there for a week and interveiwed for 5, my wife is still there interveiwing about everyday. Right now you may have to take a job that does not fit what you want to do until more openings come, but at least you will be in nice weather where there is always something to do. Vegas Joe, I can think of plenty of places that are far more worse off as far as jobs go. Try going to the midwest like Mich-Ohio area and finding a job that pays over 8.00/hr. The county we are coming from is at 17% reported unemployment and just lost a company that was moving into an abandoned GM plant and was going to hire 1500...All the factories are gone, hell DHL in Wilmington Ohio let go of 20,000 people and almost killed the entire town as that was the only place there except for fast food. It is bad in Nevada if you are in construction, but there are jobs for people to take to get by for awhile.

To make the move here, you either need enough savings to make it for a year or already have a job lined up. You may be able to find part time work for low pay like fast food/pizza delivery/retail.

The dealing schools work but now they want people who can do everything and deal all the games. IF you were lucky enough to be hired, you would be on an extra board and work only when they needed extra people. No guarantee of hours per week. The usual career path for dealers is to start at low end places and work your way up. It may be easier to get a job in Laughlin than Vegas. Might be worth checking out.

Another place worth checking out might be Primm(state line between CA and NV). The casinos there have an apt complex where their employees can live pretty cheaply. But again, get the job first! Primm would be a good place to get experience. A lot of the dealers there don't speak much English.

Best of luck to you and I hope you take it seriously and believe it when people tell you there are no jobs here!

Oh, don't let them get you down! I've been applying online at the casinos, you can too!

True, there are no jobs here, but it's hard to get a job here without living here.
I moved here in March and got the first job I applied for.
No way I could have gotten it if I wasn't in the right place at the right time.
The 'right place' was here...not NYC where it would have only been an internet ad.

Just saying.....
