Virtually all numbers are up except gaming revenue which is down a small amount. Convention visitors, visitors, room occupancy, room rates are all up.

Yep...my next door neighbor re heading there next week...for the first time in their lives. He's 63, she's 57. They plan to gamble no more than $20 each in a slot machine, just to say that they did it.

You can tell them that the majority of people who win the jackpots here actually play about $20 or less. Rarely is it someone who sat there feeding bills endlessly into the machine. Don't ask me why but it seems to consistently pan out that way.

CARSON CITY – Casinos along the Las Vegas Strip chalked up a 28.9 percent jump in May winnings, the biggest increase since February 2010

"Amazing how the casinos are doing so well when the city is drowning in foreclosure debt and crime. Corporate blood sucking is the norm now. Murders all over the strip. Our locals on the streets, homeless and at the end of their proverbial ropes. We have a Happy Granny for a mayor whose 'Gin Soaked' husband used to be mayor, and a Senator who by all accounts is the most hated person in the nation, politically. Unemployment is highest here and character is at it's lowest. People are paying hundreds of dollars just to walk into one of our 500 pretentious night clubs. They pay upwards of hundreds of dollars for a bottle of Vodka (not including tip) and no where to sit, ever. How can we run around blathering on about how gaming revenue is up when the locals are desperate just to stay alive. How embarrassing for us. Las Vegas is the w h o r e we pretend to be, and the LVCVA is our pimp."

Maybe we should all wallow in the doom and close the casinos. Would solve all the problems right?

Why should a visitor care what the locals are feeling? Why should they care their dealer is 3 months behind on their mortgage while the pit boss is walking away from his house? Why should they care if the cab driver isn't earning a "living wage"?

I have a good job....one that allows me to afford some luxuries.

I'm visiting at the end of the month for a guys trip. Five of us going for the weekend. 2 rooms at Golden Nugget. $110 a night per each room. Its nearly booked up already on what seems to be a busy weekend. Well be in downtown all weekend. 2 of us are likely to gamble over $1000 each on table games. The other three play very little. Everyone will be spending some money on food and alcohol.

I'm returning a few weeks after that to take my gf for her birthday. Got great rates on an gorgeous upgraded room in a otherwise bland mid strip casino. Less gambling this time. Much less. But tickets to two shows. Even at a discount those weren't cheap. Plans for nice meals. Plans for a little gambling. She gets treated to a spa treatment on her birthday. Again spending over $1K, likely $2K by the time I get through gambling.

Orleans just sent me the best offer they ever have. I typically haven't gambled as much in the past as I do now, so the offer was a shocker. Free rooms anytime(including holiday weekends), free food, free gaming play.

So I'll probably come again in September too. Only because they sent me that offer and I don't have to worry about spending any money other than gambling.

I tip ok, I spend, I have a ton of fun. But theres not quite enough of me to go around....not yet I guess.
