Casinos won't hire much because they don't need to. They figured out they can serve the customer with fewer people. Maybe that's a bit harsh and maybe they could serve customers better, but it is what it is. Casinos are looking more and more how to use technology to reduce staff even as things pick up a bit. I used to sell to these guys and when it was bad they could look around fast enough to see who they would cut next. Now they stopped cutting for the most part, but certainly look around a lot to see who they can shuffle around to avoid making a hire.

If you want hiring, start praying to the Gods for more casinos. It really is the only way you see net adds for gaming positions. Restaurants and retail are hiring more, but the wages are such no one advertises new hires there. Enough people can be found by word of mouth to get the hiring done there in most cases.

Is that apocryphal? Was anything learned? Maybe more appropriate Vegas motto... "Working backwards from the known outcome"

This downturn did seem to show that most joints were overstaffed....we went from 1300 employees to about 850 with no appreciable drop on customer service.
