Not really an attack. This group can be difficult if approached wrong...but this was all playful. Nobody was nasty. The OP came in and basically announced that he had just discovered that one of Las Vegas's most infamous institution exists. Almost up there with discovering that Las Vegas has the strip.

So he got a little fun poked at him.

This is probably a bad place to be if you lack a sense of humor.

To answer your question, yes, nearby neighborhoods absolutely get some pig-farm-stink from time to time, depending on the wind.

I used to live at Ann and Allen, yes you smell it occasionally, no it's not that bad, but then I grew up with horses and lots of animals shoveling horse $hit. There's something comforting to me about the smell of barn/ranch life. Though it does seem to be a little worse in the heat of the summer, or if the wind is blowing the right direction. It never bothered me and I was often driving right near the farm, although the worst was when one of my kids had a school field trip there. Being right in it was a little pungent. I'll take that over some of the other smells in Vegas anyday

I live near the pig farm. It does smell pretty bad. I think it is a lot worse than cows or horses. Driving in front of it can be vomit inducing. Is stay a few blocks away.

I'm from Illinois. There is alot of nice places here to live. Just don't go up there to live. The Pig Farm was on tv on dirty jobs. It was pretty gross.

My daughter lives less than 2 miles, as the pig flies, from the farm. You can smell it at her house. I think it smells like garbage. She thinks it gives the neighborhood a nice rural feel. So I know it stinks for at least two miles around. As I recall the pigs weren't quite so bad, but then they brought in cows. The pigs have been there since there were no paved roads in the area except for Craig which was two narrow lanes usually partly hidden by blowing sand. It was a short cut to the base, and the old racetrack. Many people have bought houses right across the street from the farm and then had the guts to complain about the smell, just like they bought at the end of the runway at Nellis, and then complained about the airplane noise. These people should be forced to pass a mental competency test before being allowed in Nevada. Same goes for people who buy houses that back onto a freeway.

They are not attacking you. They don't get out much and have to have fun somehow.

If you thought you smelled it at Ann/Allen, you were probably actually smelling the horses from nearby, not the pig farm which is much further away by a few miles.
I have never smelled that pig farm anywhere near home. We even drove right to it at Ann/5th to see if the smell would kill us, and I couldn't smell it until I rolled the window down. And even then, it wasn't too bad. But the wind was blowing in the other direction.

Everything is relative. Visit Dodge City, KS, in the summer some time to discover the joys of the feedstock biz. The funny thing is that the locals were so use to it that it didn't bother them.
