Look at homes with yards too. Yes, they are more work but you also don't have the big condo fee to pay. And if you work from home, you can rearrange your hours to accommodate whatever needs to be done.

My SO is from NYC(lots of folks from NYC here), and he loves our privacy and being separate from other homes. He grew up in apartments. We are totally private with high walls and we love using the pool or just sitting in the back yard. Totally alone.

But we don't have any really good deli here so eat up before you move.

Without reading all the replies, I'd say take a look at Red Rock Country Club if you're bent on spending that much on a home. There are a lot of local movers and shakers, and long time wealthy Las Vegans living there. I imagine they all wish they hadn't spent millions on those homes now. For 500K you can buy a mansion. The scenery at RRCC is great too, backing almost up against a high mesa of red sandstone, with a golf course in between, and I think it's considered within Summerlin, but maybe only borders it. It's not far from Red Rock Canyon, the most beautiful place in the Las Vegas area, so the golf course often gets wild burros walking around. To see a wild animal around here is a rare treat, and RRCC people have spotted bobcats and coyotes, which don't really bother anyone.

FYI: The once million dollar home next door to me has now sold twice for around 350K since the crash.

I can give am opinion on the little I know after being here a month coming from chicago (within city limits) & living in the burbs before that. I prefer actual city living & living in green valley ranch is like living in the burbs. That said, I love it here so far. lots of people out walking, jogging, bike riding, walking dogs, AND walking with kids (I have an 11 month old). Everyone I have meet everywhere has been friendly. We picked an address specifically according to the middle school ratings for my SD. if you expect to go private that won't matter for you. We are pretty excited that montissori school here costs less than my daycare in chicago. Can't speak to RE as we prefer to rent. We love our location for bring able to walk to The District & the park district/library. I miss the chicago architecture, the lake, & public transportation. I miss the feel of downtown during the workday. I really miss some of the chicago food! But I wouldn't go back!

Agreed!!! Anthem Highlands is AWESOME!!!!!!! and close to everything you need.... for the wife.... its only a short drive (to eastern and st. rose) where the best nail salon is...

granted it might not have marble floors but they actually do nails well. and the people are great....

the schools in Anthem are also as good as your going to get in the Valley...
