This isn't the best forum for that kind of question because this is about vegas not about drugs -- but, if they are taking the hair off your head you are probably OK because that's usually only good for 3-4 months. If they are taking hair from other parts of your body then you might have a problem, worst case that can go back as far as 12 months.

If you have long hair on your head, it wouldn't hurt to get it trimmed. Don't over-do it with a buzzcut that would raise suspicion. A little manscaping elsewhere wouldn't hurt either.

Also, unless you are working a safety-related job like bus driver, it is not legal to require a drug test you after you have been hired. So after your first day on the job, feel free to celebrate any way you like.

That is not true at all. This is a right-to-work state and by that, they mean they reserve the right to fire you at any time, for any reason.

They can also require a drug test any time they'd like.

+1 This ^^

Most companies are open about their drug test policy and will tell you what triggers or warrants a test. Usually reasonable cause, post accident, initial screening, and sometimes simply randomly or at set intervals for higher risk/liability jobs.

Right to work means you don't have to join a union, what you're talking about is "at will".

Precisely.

That is incorrect. Right to work refers to the ability of an employer to sign a contract with a union promising that they will only hire union members. A right to work state forbids local employers from signing such contracts.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Right-to-work_law

I suspect you have confused right-to-work with employment-at-will which means that both employer and employee have the right to terminate the employment contract without justification or notice not withstanding employment contract terms to the contrary. All 50 states are employment-at-will states.

The problem is that if there is justification, certain types of justification are forbidden. For example, a racist manager could fire a black employee for no reason at all, but if that manager ever lets it slip that they did it out of racism, then that company is looking at legal liability for wrongful discharge.

I stand corrected. In Nevada.

In many states (like CA, IA, MT, MA, FL, NJ, OH, VT, WV, etc) being fired for failing an arbitrary drug test qualifies as wrongful discharge. I had assumed Nevada was like every other state I have worked in.

Given how much right-to-work laws have been the news over the past year, it's amazing how many people still get confused about what it means.

Yup. Sorry about the incorrect terminology. I often confuse the two.

The facts remain the same though. They can fire you or ask you to take a drug test whenever they'd like in Nevada.

Even then, not exactly. The firing process for someone like me is so difficult that casinos will just move bad union cooks to a "do nothing" position like the EDR.
