My suggestion? Graduated colors -- for instance, in 89129 I'll bet the violent crimes are more towards Rancho than the area west of 215.

My section of 89110 doesn't have much crime, not even taggers feel like climbing the hill to commit their misdemeanors. But there is a LOT of crime around N. Nellis.

It would make the map more accurate, at least. If you have access to that sort of crime data.

EDIT -- Isn't 89124 Mt. Charleston? Not Sunrise Mt.?

Start with the FBI 2009 data for Henderson, Metro and NLV. Which is then spread among the zips by using the zip code data from the Metro, NLV and Henderson Police crime map sites. Then use the population statistics from Clark County for mid 2010. I intended to use the census data but it is still not available by zip code.

It is a sausage process. Not pretty but should be pretty fair.

I am also doing a burglary and car theft map and then give up. The data from the police depts is to different to do the generic disturbance chart I would really like to do.

Ooooh I live in a "peach area" . I keep the shotgun loaded right behind the front door, and two 9mm's loaded in each bedroom. (No kids live here). My neighbors arsenal is better then mine, he's a former Ranger and has an impressive collection of firepower & security utensils. If a burglar or the Red Chinese invade our street, we'll put up one heck of a good fight.

Your suggestion would be a huge help to people like me, waiting to move into the area and not knowing where the safest places are.
