And then put an old-school casino back in it's place -- A brick-for-brick replacement of the D.I., Stardust or Sands.

Now if we could only resurrect the Rat Pack and put the mob back in charge.

Well, the hats have come back big. Baccarat is back.

If we could just find a cool crooner with an eye-patch*, who also plays trumpet and does fancy six-shooter demonstrations. This time, we'd let him stay at any hotel he wants.

* I thought he looked cooler with the patch.

+1

Vegas needs the mob now more than ever!!

We need to go back to cheap rooms, next to free food, and free drinks (No more $20 drinks at the clubs). Vegas isn't a "weekend" destination anymore. For the price of a fun weekend in Vegas, you could go to Hawaii for a whole week!!

The casino's make their money on the games... the cheap food and rooms bring the people here.

Yeah, a few people ended up at the bottom of the dam, or out in the desert. So what? Don't want to get fitted for concrete shoes....don't borrow money from the mob (or at least pay it back...with interest )!!

Large corporations have ruined Vegas, just like they did with the rest of the country.

The corporate bean counters decided long ago that every department at the casino has to turn a profit.

They can't see the big picture -- as long as the whole property is making money, who cares if a lot of cheap vodka gets swilled for free?

Problem is, free stuff attracts the moochers -- who will always game the system to the point where casinos have to put controls on how much cheap food and booze can fly out the door.

If they could, moochers would play the penny slots, one line at a time, and order Grey Goose martinis until they had to be poured into a cab. (Demanding a comp lobster dinner, because they spent a whopping 37 dollars at the penny slots.)

That happens now though.

How often do you see a waitress when you put anything smaller than a $20 in a machine? They know how much you're playing, and how often. They send the girl over accordingly. Like you imply, the corporations leave nothing to chance.

The Mob would have similar rules. They would probably have more strict consequences too. Lobster dinner? SURE.... you can catch your own at the bottom of the lake!

Ok while i understand your point.... that is a little exaggerated... I have seen the prices for the hotels and everything in hawaii and while the plane tickets are not that expensive wow everything else is...

I'm sorry but even with the few problems the corporations have created vegas is still the best dang place to vacation.

but do i agree with the future is in the past.... 100%

the system worked great everyone had money and everyone was happy.... if something isnt broke dont fix it....

where is buggsy 2.0?

C'mon... eye in the sky is not managing cocktail waitresses. They have enough on their plates watching for cheaters.

The simple truth is that the cocktail waitresses are clustering around the higher priced machines and tables because that's where the good tokes are. If someone is playing out in the boonies of penny-land, they're not going to see as many waitresses.

Also, the mob never roughed up an honest guest. Anyone at the bottom of Lake Mead had it coming. It wasn't until Tony Spilatro started knocking over jewelry stores that people decided enough was enough.

Having followed the articles in the paper, I've grown more and more suspicious of MGM's motives for tearing the building down. What really bothers me is I feel the Harmon is the most attractive building in City Center, but then I love glass oval-shaped glass towers (like they have in Houston) and this one even went so far as experimenting with different colored glass.

It would sadden me to no end to see this building imploded!

Let's hope the builder is correct, that it can be saved! Too many unoccupied rooms at City Center? Sheesh, we're only looking at 400+ rooms here!
