The people who inhabit these communities are some of the nicest people I have met too. Although many of them do not speak English well, they are always willing to help and to point you in the right direction, and they try. My fiance got a flat tire just north of Greeley on her way back from Denver and a truck full of Migrant farm workers stopped to help her. We both speak Spanish and have respect for people in general. I say, lose the xenophobic ideals and get to know these people, they truly are nice people for the most part. And no, they are not all illegals.
See what one unfounded accusation does? Here's another one that jumps to conclusions and makes me look like a racist when I said absolutely nothing about Mexicans. Are Mexicans mentioned in my post? The only one who assumed I was talking about Mexicans is Ackack. I wonder why? By the way, I too speak a little Spanish and have stopped in the middle of the night, in the middle of the desert, alone, and helped out stranded migrant workers on at least two different occasions. I'm an Anglo, but would I do that for a bunch of trashy looking Anglos? I'd have to think long and hard, and I'd probably have to be armed.

My granddaughter is Mexican, some of my nieces and nephews are Mexican, Honduran, and Guatemalan, and I have many very good friends from all over the Hispanic world. I lived on the border in a town that was 92% Hispanic, and I was even married in Mexico and have often considered moving there. I defend them, legals and illegals, Mexican-Americans and Mexican Nationals, every time I get another racist email from idiots who wouldn't know a Mexican if one bit him in the a**. I am scared to death about what the stupid government will do to screw them over, and at the same time destroy more of our liberties as well. Putting up a fence on the border to me is a bad as the Berlin Wall. And I agree with you on one thing, they do have pride of ownership and usually have the best looking homes in a neighborhood. Too bad the white folks in those neighborhoods don't do the same. So don't you dare accuse me of hating Mexicans when you don't even know me.
Take it easy Buzz123, I was just following your lead. Remember you were calling out a bunch of other posters for being "racist" even though you never seen them or knew nothing about them. You even called me out before I had to tell you that I was part Hispanic (to some, that makes it okay to be critical). Then you switched gears and decided that you were going to bash Arabs instead. Apparently there aren't any Arabs on the boards to defend themselves though.
You didn't need a long explanation to defend your position. I know you love hiring people like me to do your dirty work, so you didn't need to convince me you liked my type (just not me).

I was referring to xenophobia in general, not trying to insult you. I just read the reply unfortunatly and not the origional message. I apologise.

You see, you just keep making up lies about me and I'm really a nice person. Well, at least I can say that now I know one Mexican I don't like because he just keeps making false accusations about me. Do I want you to do my gardening? I want someone who knows what he is doing to do my gardening. But I wouldn't hire you now that I know you are dishonest.

Also you should learn the difference between Arabs and Muslims. Muslims are taught to hate and destroy us infidels. But not everyone from the middle east is an Arab. Iranians are not Arabs, neither are Afghanis, Pakistanis, or Iraqis. Arabs are from Saudi Arabia. As long as we are at war with Islam we shouldn't allow the enemy to make millions in our country that they plan to use to buy bombs to blow us all to he**. I don't apologize for not trusting them or liking them since they have proven they can't be trusted. That said, I know several very nice Iranians. I even have very good Iranian doctors, even though I wouldn't be surprised to hear that one of them supports terrorists. I just read a book about Afghanistan that will soon be made into a movie, The Kite Runner. It made me feel so sorry for them that I teared up reading it. But do I still believe that we need to run them out of all non-Muslim countries until they prove they are no longer a threat. Yes, I do.

and true, i don't live in LV yet, but i have been there (not just to the strip...). I often stay up in North Vegas because i know some hotels up there that allow dogs that aren't too far from the action or too $$. and i have never seen nething in LV that compares to the rough areas of LA, Chicago, St. Louis or Detroit (personal experiences)....Lola is spot on here - there are virtually dead zones where even the cops don't go at night...does vegas have any of these?

and here is something to consider: i have had two gun incidents in my life..both were in smaller midwestern cities (we had a gun pulled on us in Milwaukee and i had someone shot in the alley next to my house in Omaha). i've lived in altadena (north LA..definitely has gang issues) for three years and haven't had any trouble (of course i am usually accompanied by two big dogs). saftey is a relative term, and if you live in an area with a large populace, there will always be bad elements.

If you get jealous reading this, don't worry one will be near you soon. I also can't get enough of unique restuarants like Chili's and Applebees, thankfully there are plenty of those too. Oh, and I can't forget all the wonderful fast food chains that build on every empty lot. This way if I am too lazy to go to Chili's I know I can choose from dozens of nearby places. If I'm craving Mexican food, I have several nearby Taco Bells, German food? Wienershnitzel! Seafood? Long John Silvers! I also enjoy driving around town. There is always lots of road construction going on, so there is always something fun and interesting to look at while I am stopped at a stoplight, wondering why they are tearing up the same road agian. I don't know why you guys are so hard on the schools here. I grew up here and am a product of the wonderful Clark County school district, so I know firsthand that they are great. I for one loved that almost a third of my fellow classmates wouldn't be getting a diploma because this meant I was going to have a leg up on them when I applied for my first low-paying, service indusrty job. It was also great to go to school each day and see so many of my fellow classmates getting an early start on what is most important, a family. Another thing I love is the many neighborhood bars and casinos. Since it is too hot for parks, we get what really matters to a community, multiple bars. This way I know that I can drink and gamble really close to home, making the drunken drive home or to Walmart much easier to swallow. Having so many neighborhood casinos is the best part though. This way I can see a movie, eat a meal, and gamble part of my hard-earned pay check. If I lose track of time and spend a little too much, no worries because I know there are several nearby check cashing places where I can get a nice high interest loan. I agree with everyone else, if you don't like it here, or can't say something nice, then do us all a favor and leave. We almost have all of the best chains in the country, and I'm tired of hearing you guys rip this place apart. What if some chain like Dunkin' Donuts for example reads your posts and decides not to bring their wonderful donuts here because of all the negativity you spread? You want to eat Winchells for the rest of your life?
Bingo! Good to see someone gets it.

Henderson is 4th.

That is on violent crimes per 100,000 people from the DOJ/FBI 2005 data.

Good enough not to be a problem. Bad enough that you can't feature it (except in Henderson).

City Crime Rankings by Population Group Not to mention LV is the mecca for UNREPORTED crime. In casinos alone I am sure there are at least 100,000 unreported crimes, of the fun-loving type, prostituion & pimping, drug use & possession, and assault. In the neighborhoods, I would bet at least twice that number. There was a spokeperson for a homebuilder on TV 3 or 8, the other day, saying they don't report site thefts, because they don't want to raise the crime rate---& make the subdivision hard to sell to suckers moving here.
