Just arrived and I'm leaving LV Friday night. Hopefully I'll have made a few offers by the time I leave. Closing date on our house in Lake Oswego, Oregon is 9/29 so the Mrs and I had better get serious. Update coming as soon as we find something. I might have to ask you guys what you think of the areas we are interested in as I not really familiar with them yet. All advice will be greatly appreciated.

As for recommendations for areas to live, I've always been partial to the Tomiyasu Ln area.

Here's a representative house on that street:

6691 Tomiyasu Ln Las Vegas NV - Home For Sale and Real Estate Listing - MLS #1171282 - Realtor.com®

I would recommend you just look at this point unless you find exactly what you want. I had a friend that did buy a home after looking for only two days and he really regrets his choice now. You can always find a great short term rental home while you take your time choosing the right home to buy. Ask a lot of questions and get as much data from as many people as you can.

I've been down to LV about 6 times in the last 2 years checking out homes. I've also been following all the threads on City-data relevent to moving to LV. We've got 15 properties to look at tomorrow and Friday with our realtor. Hopefully something will pan out for us. I'm looking west, northwest and southwest of the strip in the nice areas around 2200+ sq ft.. We are retiring so this will be for the long term.

If todays heat is the worst it gets we've decided we can handle it. There's always A.C. and I'm definately having a pool in the new house. I guess I'll never knows for sure until I pull the trigger. But as they say where I come from "Faint heart never won fat tart"

Wish me luck

I promise I'm going to be careful and will rent for a period if we don't find what we want. I appreciate your helpful comments....
