Can you file a claim with homeowner's/renter's insurance? I don't even know if that would be covered, but that'd be my guess.

This whole problem seems like something you fix with an insurance claim. It seems like it would be difficult to prove the movers stole anything, even though they probably did.

Was this storage related to military service?

I had to buy a separate umbrella policy on my homeowner's for moving loss. Worth a try, but I doubt it will help.

Reporting the gun stolen now will make you more believable when it is used in a bank robbery plus homicide tomorrow.

I hate to break it to you Grof, but Metro doesn't have the time or resources to investigate this kind of property crime. Go ahead and file if it makes you feel better. I'm sure I would do something too if I were in your shoes, but don't expect miracles. Unless you have the serial numbers and do some footwork on your own with the pawn shops, you might want to consider filing a claim with your homeowners insurance and save yourself a lot of time and headache.

The gun, however, is a different story. You need to make sure that doesn't come back to you if it's used in a crime. I hope it was registered.

I hope it all works out...best of luck to you.

It seems these moving companies have a license to steal, in which case you can go only on reputation. I hope the OP puts this story on the appropriate sites, so others know to avoid this company.

Do file the claim ASAP! Honest! Back in the mid 80's one of my father's handguns was stolen. It was later used to commit a serious crime in a neighboring state. No matter what else you do, make sure you get a report number on the gun.

In order to make a homeowners claim the items have to be reported as stolen. (thats why my insurence company said) as far as the damanaged items there is not anything they can do about that...

How is it difficult to prove I have pictures before they came in the house, pics showing everything was gone when they left and pictures as the items i did get came back in savage condition. (i photograph everything) I have recipts, and Serial numbers and the contract from the company that shows they moved and stored and brought back all my items for the dates I was gone...

Yelp and Epinions and Ripoffreport come to mind. 60 Minutes exposed the BBB as a pay-for-grade scam, so the moving company might retain a high grade there.
