I wonder if the new lights will go out each time I approach them like the old lights do. I wonder why I have the power to turn off lights just by walking by them.

When high pressure sodium lights reach their end of life...they cycle through dim/bright phases. Perhaps you just tend to walk by old lamps?

Is that why when Pinkish person walks up to a friends front door, the lights go out?

NO!!!One thing I love about the Valley is the lights of the entire valley at night.It won't look the same(or that good) with the new streetlights.
