At least within the city limits of Las Vegas, particularly around downtown, I am seeing a lot of the old fashioned street lights being replaced with new LED lights that are much thinner, more efficient and last a lot longer than traditional bulbs like these ones (which are all over Las Vegas right now)

The new lights like this one

Can be seen along Jones Blvd, Charleston Blvd, Decatur, Eastern, and other streets in or close to downtown. I imagine the city will be installing more real soon

Granted these old lights cause a lot of "light pollution" which is a bad thing, but these bright orange lights give the valley such a captivating view at night. Granted these new LED lights look much better and more modern with their bright white light, they dont cause any light pollution and I feel that once the city completes installing them eventually Clark County will do the same and Vegas will most likely lose a majority of its bright night lighting, not literally but there will be no more light pollution and the valley will look dark

I personally dont care about this issue, but the view of Las Vegas at night wont be the same once all the old orange streetlights are gone

I personally DO care. Me and my telescope look forward to less light pollution.

Won't be the same, but might be better. Think of all the additional stars you'll now be able to see in the night sky... Nice pictures of the two lights BTW.

Looking at the stars will definitely be nice, it will save me a trip into the high desert nw of the city

But at the same time, Vegas will be losing its "bright lights" charm to me

As for the streetlight pics, Google image search truly is amazing

BTW, Henderson has similar white lighting on all their streets, and you can barely see Henderson at night, even from the M Resort

It will still be plenty bright. Bright enough that I'll still head northeast for stargazing.

But it will be nice to see a nebula or two from my balcony and not have to drive.

I have a neighbor who wants to use the scope for that purpose. While I can see the windows of the various hotels on the strip, it's not quite powerful enough to peek inside.

I'm more interested in deep sky objects, though. If I wanted to see blondes, there's no end of strip clubs.

I wonder what the major difference in maintenance for these new lights and the older ones? I hope they don't effect jobs negatively.

These definitely will look nice downtown. Fremont needs an upgrade. Anykind.

Lol, I think it's funny you know it can't quite see that far.

I collimate my scope using the antenna of the Stratosphere. Easiest way to do it in this town.
