Can anyone who has lived here for a while give any insight on the safety of the Greyhound bus terminal on Main St.?

Not for myself, but for my sister. She will be travelling alone from Toronto, ON by train. It is apparantly a 3 day trip, with the last leg being by bus from Kingsmen?, AZ. arriving around MIDNIGHT.

I will not be in town to pick her up. So she will be having to flag a cab to take her to Mirage.

How safe is this bus terminal for a young lady with luggage by herself? Will it be a long wait for a taxi, or is there a line of them waiting like at McCarran? I have never been to this terminal so I couln't tell her.

Anyone here have any experiences there, or picking up friends or family?

THANKS in advice guise

#1. it's KINGMAN, AZ

#2. NOT the best time of the night in ANY bus Terminal in the US but actually this one is probably safer then most, because it is one block off of one of the busiest places in America [The Fremont Street Experience]

THAT being said, if she isnt schleping too much luggage, she can walk out of the bus terminal and go approx 1 block north to the entrance of the Plaza Hotel and get a cab there.

There MAY be cabs AT the bus terminal but it isnt the BUSIEST cab stand in town....

I hate even walking by the bus station after dark with my husband. Usually a few scary looking people out there day and night. But if you get off the bus, go out to Main street, turn left and walk one block to the Plaza, you will be ok. Just walk fast.

The terminal is right beside The Plaza. Even so, it is a dirty, yucky looking place and lots of undesirables hang out in that area. There used to be a door directly from the terminal into The Plaza. The Plaza maintained the slot machines in the terminal. So she should be able to walk right into the hotel, cross the casino to the hotel lobby, and come out the front door and get a cab easier and safer. I don't know if cabs actually have a stand in front of the terminal, so call Greyhound and ask them. But, I think I'd still walk through the hotel and get one at the front door.

This is correct. At midnight, it really shouldn't be too much of an issue.

Does anyone know if the bus station and walk into the Plaza has cleaned up since the Plaza re-opened(it underwent a complete renovation)?

She could call a taxi ahead of time to meet her at the station. This way she gets off the bus right into a cab. No waiting.

that SOMETIMES wil work.....but at that time of night probably not....Most shows on the strip start at 12 Midnite....the time right before that is called "Showbreak"....every cab in town is running from one strip hotel to the other....midnite comes....and theyre all somewhere eating....unless its changed a lot from when I drove....

It's a 60foot walk from the side door of the DOGSHOP[Greyhound Depot] to the PLAZA....all youre doing is crossing a driveway.....and USUALLY there are cabs lined up on the street right THERE....the closest there is to a cabstand on Fremont St.

The bus station is still pretty crummy- we just picked my brother-in-law up there a few weeks ago. It probably won't be an issue given the proximity to the hotel, Fremont, etc., but it's definitely not Beverly Hills.
