I read somewhere that when you move to Vegas you should avoid the property managment companies. Why is that? I have been looking at places on craigslist and other sites, I want a condo or townhouse. Don't most owners use property managemet companies?

Because they like to *********, use a direct owner, they are more responsive and helpful...

Did you want to buy or rent the townhouse or condo?
Did i pm you with the info in Aliante about this? There are plenty of townhomes and condos in Aliante right now for sale. Some for rent.

I want to rent for the 1st year I live in Vegas. I want to make sure I love it as much as I think I will. I also want to learn the city more to see where I would want to purchase. When I do buy I think I will want a condo or townhouse.
No, I haven't received any PM's from you.

Sorry, i asked because i send pms to alot of people on here wanting info, and i get wacky after awhile. Can't remember everyone sometimes.

Do you have a definite area picked out yet? or are you open to suggestions?
About a mile from me are the brand new apts at Rome/Valley. I posted a link on here somewhere about them. Presidio apts. They are really nice. And you can walk to shopping, restaurants, banks. A Kohls is going up near those apts. Plus a natural foods store.

Well I've been looking on craigslist and a few other rental sites and all the places I seem to like say they are located on the Southwest side of town. I am coming with my daughter who will be entering the 5th grade so I do want to make sure I'm in a place where she can go to a decent school. Yes, I have read all the horror stories about Vegas schools. That being said the only thing I'm not open about is the school and the fact that I absolutely have to have a washer and dryer in my place and a swimming pool. ha ha ha. I would like to be in a townhome or condo in a safe neighborhood within walking distance to places for my daughter and I to walk. Decisions...decisions. lol

Your second to last sentence described where i live really well. We have a community pool for residents only. We are gated. There is an elementary school across the street from the entrance to the townhomes here. Most townhomes and the condos up the road come with appliances.
You can walk to the store, restaurants, banks, parks, library, etc. At the condo's you can walk to a super walmart, restaurants, banks, costco, best buy, petland, payless shoe source, radio shack, bed bath and beyond, kohls, etc.

They are building more schools in Aliante. And Park Highlands just up the road a bit farther north is also building schools there, plus everything else in existence.

Are you visiting first then deciding after that? If you get a chance, come out and see this area and see if it looks like something you want.

PinkString: Yes I plan to visit June 14-21st. Prior to coming I plan to send out tons of resumes and hope I get a few interviews scheduled for the week I'm there. I'm also going to pound the pavement looking for a job during the week. In addition I plan to visit some places so I can find a place to live. I will be driving my car out as of now the plan is to leave the 1st week in July. My family goes on vacation to Vegas every year in mid July so I will let my daughter fly out with them that way she doesn't have to suffer through the long drive.

The only thing about giving out some info now, alot can change in a year. Prices can go up or down. The area's basically remain the same, with new communities added. Places can fill up and have no vacancies when you come out if you are interested in a specific place to rent.

I think the area Pink is talking about would be Goynes Elementary and that is where most of the kids in my area go. It is a great school!! Also, the High School over here is Legacy which is brand new and as a teacher in CCSD I have heard awesome things about it. As far as property management, if you are renting a private home I would try to rent from the owner. For an apartment or condo I don't think you have as much choice.
