What are your thoughts of Galleria mall area (henderson) and West Summerlin (Red rock hotel area) - as a place to visit, and later possibly move to

Is the area around the Galleria Mall in Henderson safe? I would assume that the mall atmosphere would bring security to the area. But based on some threads it seems the area around the Galleria may be sketchy and not safe.
Is this the case?

How is the area around Red Rock hotel (west summerlin) in comparison with safety, demographics and amenities?

You said "as a place to visit". Are you visiting family in these areas?

I'm sure you will find more activities to do in Red Rock area compared to the Galleria Mall area.

We have stayed in both areas and feel perfectly safe in either one.. The Sunset Casino is right across from the Galleria..we have been out at night both places and felt safe...

Actually they ONLY places I have not felt relatively safe is on E Lake Mead Blvd and in the area around the Natural History Museum at night...

Unless you enjoy the sound of jets flying directly overhead on their way to land at the airport, I'd go with Summerlin.

There are flight paths over Summerlin as well. Summerlin is a master planned community in Las Vegas where as Henderson is a really city a bedroom community to Las Vegas. The area around Galleria mall offer great shopping for just about every taste and dining and it's not far from other area's in Henderson like the District. Henderson has allot more amenities close to homes where as the shopping in Summerlin is more concentrated in certian area's. Summerlin is a nice place to live as well, it just depends on what a person is looking for, for their life style. A person needs to take the time to check each place out. Here are a couple of links to learn more about the area's.

I don't disagree with that except that the planes come in low for landings about every 30 seconds and the flight path is right above the Galleria on a direct line to the airport which is, in airplane years, just a few yards away (really about a mile and a half, but that's all I mean. The planes over Summerlin are taking off and gaining altitude. By the time they get over most of Summerlin they are (in technical terms) way, way up there. In Henderson you can see the terrified look on the passengers' faces as they come down.

Summerlin is on the departure end of the runway system so planes are at reasonable altitudes when they hit Summerlin....whereas Hooterville is on the approach end and they wanna be low....BUT they also are using VERY small amounts of power, thus low noise level.....

take yer pick that aiport aint gonna move....

Instead of by Galleria / Sunset Station, go south, up the hill, across the freeway, to the area south of Green Valley Ranch Casino (the area is also known as Green Valley Ranch)
