I used Dependable Auto from LA to Minneapolis and it was around $600. If you can bring the car to them and go pick up at one of their locations it is cheaper than door to door service.

If it breaks down, the car owner is responsible for the repair bill. It's a crap shoot when it comes right down to it.

We had our car shipped by The Car Carrier when we moved from D.C. to Las Vegas last year. We paid $1,092 for door-to-door transport. And the price quoted was exactly what we paid upon delivery.

And at $0.45 per mile, makes a lot of sense -- no fast food, no filling up, no hotel stays, no tolls, no traffic jams, etc.

several years ago my boss relocated to Atlantic city....he used a drive-away to ship his car...was due in AC in 7 days....it came in 2 weeks late....when he drove it [BRAND NEW Cadilliac] the transmission slipped and jerked....he took it in to the dealership....a 3 yr old transmission had been swapped into his brand new Cadilliac. He was a TOUCH upset.

There was a movie made years ago about a Driveaway car shipper bein chased by the cops......can't remember the name tho.
