The pig farm is not that bad if you live a certain distance and off the wind line. Von above listed two areas that are considered "north las vegas". Diamond in the rough is right. As long as people still have the avoid north las vegas mentality the rest of us can have very nice homes for not a lot of money, and there arent scary people trying to rape my daughter every night. My neighbor are a black family with the husband working at Nellis. Gorgeous family. If that scares you, move to Summerlin. Like I said in another thread, people will be stampeding up to North LV in a few years or so.

For me, the difference between the North North and the South South was the demographic. I spent time in both places before I decided, rode the public transportation, shopped, and ate in the food joints. In the end I came to the conclusion that the South had a totally different vibe. Some will argue I'm wrong but the people just seemed nicer and better educated. Sometimes, it's not all about location, location, location. That was my general observation...

I'd stay right here in Sunrise. I like the weather better on the extreme West edge of town. But when I compare their view, and my view, it's a no-brainer. Although I wish I had the money to fix up that monstrosity at the end of Copper Rd. That place is going to be a palace when whoever recently bought the thing finishes. Bet it's a $5 million renovation, if not more.

Just had lunch on Tuesday at Desert Shores at Marche Bacchus which is patio dining on a beautiful lake. The houses/condos around it looked pretty nice.

While I live in Aliante in North Las Vegas, and never smell the famous pig farm unless driving right by it a few miles away from here, I always wanted to live in Summerlin. When we first moved here so long ago, we lived in The Lakes area, which many refer to as the southwest. Right next to Summerlin/Peccole Ranch. We were on the far west end as far as I'm concerned. Beautiful area, lots of mature tree's all over. It just has a good feel to it. To me, it's that old familiar feeling, having lived over there for 4 years. And it was a short walk to the best library. Lots of traffic.

Another area I really like is Henderson/Green Valley. Really pretty, lots of tree's. I like the way it's laid out. Even the strip malls are really nice. Most of them anyway. Really nice views of the Strip from there. Cannot be beat. Lots of traffic though.

Centennial Hills is also a very nice area. Has that wide open feel to it. Some parts are newer, some parts are older. And you get more home for the money there versus Summerlin or Green Valley. Less traffic.

When I retire and move my family next year it will probably be the Centennial Hills area.

At the moment I'm really interested in renting. Buying is some where dow the line so I'm not even thinking about where right now. Do the areas recommended have a mix of rentals and purchases?

It appears that rentals are 2 or 3 stories, which is fine by me and they are in gated communities. (Condos, Townhouses?) Do the areas recommended also have homes for rent?

Any feedback on Desert Shores or the Lakes? I'm moving from desert to desert, but at least here I have an inlet from the ocean and date trees. Are there any good areas where there would be some greenery? And I'm not talking about cactus!!!!

Thanks everyone for their input.

I would not choose to live anywhere near Las Vegas. As a part-time vacation place, it's great. As a full-time residential place, I think it sucks.

In NV...check out the Reno area for real living conditions.
