Something that irritates me about Las Vegas is a I hear a lot of people talking about how Macau is raking in SO MUCH MORE gambling revenue than we are.

And how more and more casinos are opening up across the country and that will hurt gambling revenue even further for Las Vegas

Yet gambling revenue is at (or damn near close) to pre-recession levels, visitor numbers are up as well as room rates, passengers at McCarran, everything on the strip seems to be on the up and up

Honestly, even with Macau, and all these local casinos opening up in other places. People are NOT going to stop coming to Las Vegas EVER. Sure people will have that casino in their hometown thats 15 minutes away, but when home becomes a pain in the ass and people want to get away, they will still come here, because our casinos most likely one up every other casino in the country, and our shows and shopping and dining choices will still keep people coming. And people will continue to get crazy drunk and do stupid things they cant do at home

And then you have the outdoors crowd, they may not gamble but they will still come here to hike Red Rock, Mt Charleston (which also attracts skiiers and snowboarders) Sure Mt Charleston still isnt Colorado but we still have it

Anyways what Im getting at is all this negativity that Las Vegas is near some kind of death or something. People are always going to come here, spend tons of money and stimulate our economy. Even with Macau and increased competition from casinos around the country, Las Vegas ain't going down without a fight and I know this town will prosper once again.

The negativity about Las Vegas is irritating and it needs to stop

what they also don't say is the tax percentage on the casinos

Colorado's has 4th lowest casino tax rate | The Balance Sheet

The effective casino tax rates are listed below.

Nevada: 8 percent
New Jersey: 9 percent
Mississippi: 12 percent
Colorado: 14 percent
South Dakota: 16 percent
Oklahoma: 17 percent
Iowa: 22 percent
Michigan: 23 percent
Louisiana: 24 percent
Kansas: 25 percent
New Mexico: 26 percent
Missouri: 27 percent
Indiana: 31 percent
Illinois: 34 percent
West Virginia: 43 percent
Delaware: 43 percent
Florida: 43 percent
New York: 46 percent
Maine: 49 percent
Pennsylvania: 53 percent
Maryland: 58 percent
Rhode Island: 62 percent

so in theory think about your chances of winning or breaking even anywhere else....

Davie,
Two jewish women are eating lunch one day in the Catskills
One woman says "The food here is lousy" and the other woman chimes in "And such small portions"

People need to *****, and moan, I have read so many posts how NVenergy is the highest priced power in the country, and actually the contrary is correct.

People ***** about how high rents are, how high food prices are, how DARE THEY CHARGE $12 for parking...

In NYC we pay $50 for parking and are HAPPY TO HAVE FOUND A LOT TO PARK IN.

You need to listen to this site for advice (and there is a LOT of great advice on here)
but take people moaning and bitching (even your own, my friend) with a grain of salt

Jonathan

THe excuses for not building things in Vegas, are running thin.

Gamblers? Back.
Rooms booked? Back.
Stock Market? Back.

The money is obviously not a concern like they said it was when the shut Echelon down.... So what's the excuse now for not starting to build again?

SoCal is also going again too. Just about every construction worker I know, from Vegas, is down in SoCal right now, working. The work just hasn't migrated up here yet.

Greed, thats all it is. Companies are all making record amounts of money yet the REFUSE to hire new employees and start building again. They're happy with where they are at and will continue to rake in money

A perfect example of this is Sears Holdings Corporation. After Sears and KMart joined forces in 2005, they are actually doing quite well, yet they are NOT opening any new stores, they are closing them, they are not investing in new technology and are just sitting pretty with what they've got taking every last profit and stashing it

Yup...sad but true

Even though politically, I tend to agree more with Republicans, I choose to remain apolitcal for the simple fact that regardless of which is the ruling party, we the people take it where the sun dont shine (and I dont mean Seattle) regardless if its Republican or Democrat.

Both parties become more extreme as time goes on drifting further and further away from the center of the political spectrum

Both parties are for the wealthy 1% The two party thing is a trick to make us think we have some choice and of course to divide us.

Republican idealogy is great. Family values, small government. Nothing wrong with those things at all. I agree with them. The problem is that none of the republicans elected actually do those things.

Dems have good ideas too. Let's help people, let's be accepting of others. These are all admirable qualities. I'm all for solving the social problems of the world. But they don't actually do that. lol.

They should just start one "screw the people" party. It's all a sham and people are starting to figure it out.

The same people who bought Bush bought Obama and will buy the next POTUS we are pretty much screwed no matter who wins. Yet some sheeple really think it matters.

I'm really hoping for Ron Paul honestly.

Yeah you're probably right. It's always been like this hasn't it?

What I tell myself is that it could be a lot worse.

I am glad to be an American, could be worse. Could also be better :P
