Hi everyone! We have lived here in Henderson for 6 years now, currently in 89012 (Stephanie/Horizon Ridge). We have lived in 2 neighborhoods in this zip and while both have been nice, there does not seem to be much of a sense of community...no kids playing outside, etc. I am wondering if there is a neighborhood in Henderson that has this-willing to look outside 89012. I've heard McDonald Ranch isn't much better, nor Seven Hills. Anthem is a bit too far for us. I have a friend who says Palm Hills is awesome, but I don't know much about it. $500k max is what we would spend, which gets us quite a bit these days. Has anyone seen a neighborhood like when we were growing up as kids, or does this just not exist anymore?

Unfortunately, most nighborhoods are like that in Vegas. My guess is bc so many people are from different areas across the country and people working all hours of the day, which isnt as common in other cities.

Welcome to my world. It isn't any better in Sunrise.

Where I come from, if I was bored I'd hop on my bicycle and ride around until I saw a barbecue going on. Since it was a small town, I knew everyone there. And sometimes, I'd tell everyone I knew that I was having a barbecue, and 100 or so people would come by over the course of the day.

Nothing like that ever seems to happen around here.

Maybe if I bought a pig, dug a trench and did a Cuban pig roast, my neighbors might surprise me and drop by. But I'm not going to hold my breath.

That's been the biggest complaint I've heard around here for 47 years. Try Boulder City. Or start a movement. But good luck with that.

You want kids playing outside? Come to my neighborhood. North Vegas near the 215(Nicest homes for your price range) or just go to Aliante and cruise around. I spoke to my wife 2 days ago and she told me that she got invited to at least 5 different homes in the neighborhood for Thanksgiving because I was deployed. If that does not say community then I don't know what is.

Not to be overly stereotypical but I've actually found the lower income areas to describe what you're actually looking for. I'm not talking about the ghetto but solid working class neighborhoods. I don't think I even need to get into all the reasons nor would I say it's true across the board.

I wish I could move there, then!! I have to live in my sales territory, though, which pretty much limits me to Henderson and not-so-desirable parts of Las Vegas. But you have given me a glimmer of hope-thank you!

Well, I love the neighborhood I'm in here in Southern Highlands. We totally lucked out, as we are renting. We just moved here in July. When we were first looking for a rental, this area wasn't even on my radar, and I don't even know what caused me to open the link on Craigslist because we weren't looking in this area. I am so glad we did! My girls have a bunch of friends on our street all the same age. We all walk to school together and the school itself really fosters a sense of community.

I can't speak to Henderson, although we did live there about 10 years ago. I think it's changed a lot since then.

I really didn't expect to find anything like we had in the Midwest, but I've been pleasantly surprised.
