One thing is prepare yourself for a cultural awakening, there is NO southern hospitality out here... it's more akin to dog eat dog, more so than even California.

If you are strong, you will survive.
Vegas is like LA light, you really need thick skin to survive here, the people are not all nice unless you have something they want. I would have a job before moving here. This place is tough like LA.You dont get any hospitality here unless you pay for it.There are many transaint people that move through here so it is hard to gain trust here.

Dont know which casino you work at, but I assume you are in Biloxi/Pascagoula. Depending on which casino you work in you might be able to do a direct transfer if you work at the Beau thats a Wynn property and you might (I mean a small chance) have a chance to work in a Wynn property. Same thing if you work at the Hard Rock. Whatever casino it is, find out if they, as a corporation, have a property in LV and ask your bosses how a transfer could work. Dont pigeonhole yourself into Henderson either.

Yeah, Friend....

HENDERSON. Trust me on this.

FYI - the poster is correct. A city based on based vice that breeds transiency does not equal niceties or honesty, for that matter. And the South is a totally different animal...But I take it you'll figure that out soon enough.

Henderson is not all bad, but Summerlin would be a lot better if you can afford it. Trust me on this.

You will thank me later.

Very true, the south is definately a different animal. WOW! I just need a change of pace. I figure why not. Thanks for the feedback Summerlin or Henderson is the main areas overall that people suggest. I will be staying in las vegas for a week in hopes of finding a job and a cute apartment in March. MY FINGERS ARE CROSSED!!!

Me and my now wife made the jump to Las Vegas this past August! She also worked at Biloxi casino (for only 6 months) until she found a managing job in Mobile, Al(She didnt like it haha). We had both been in the South our whole lives (Biloxi/Mobile). My few suggestions on being here a little while:

Outside of 5 o clock traffic, traffic is not near as bad as other big cities

I would vote Summerlin over Henderson just because Henderson is just a tad out of the way of the main city.

Yeah no southern hospitality, but ive met some nice people here. (Sweet tea/Grits are hard to find)

But its still hard to make friends!

Outside of the strip, it feels like any other city

Everything looks the same (buildings/houses/streets)

If you cant find a job in casino/makeup right away, take whatever job you can until you do get that casino/makeup job. It was harder than i thought finding a job, but you have many years exp going for ya.

If you have any other questions, let me know! It was scary moving all the way across the country leaving the hometown, but once you do it, its like why did I wait so long. You feel like you can do anything if you can do this.
