So many people ask for good info about moving to Vegas. And there is so many suggestions that all of you that have the pleasure of living/working there answer back. Since im in South MS right this second I feel I have to say YALL are awesome... such good advice good or bad.

So here it goes. I am a casino cocktail server. Happy to say at 30 by choice have no children and have zero want to get married for as long as I can think ahead. So right of the bat I do not meet your normal way of life around the south. I have lived here my entire life. I vacation non-stop when I return I say family! Im leaving!!! and everytime they beg me not to. I give it alot of thought and I decide not to. Most people here are known for a laid-back sense of stlye..friendly people.. However that has just become not enough. Since Hurricane Katrina in 2005 it has never been the same. Our casinos and businesses along the coast in my opinion seem as though it will never even half-way recover. And the oil Spill disaster. Well that lowered the amount of money every person here made no matter what type of business you where in. So with all that being said... I do still make pretty good money. But im over living here all together. I have set a goal of saving for a year and packing up and moving to Henderson to work hopefully cocktailing in a casino. If all else fails I have excellent 10 yrs reference as a makeup artist. So Im not that freaked about finding some type of work in a month or two after I arrive. I need a change! Need more fun! Some say business is terrible there. But us too!! so how crazy is this. Risk loving the change?
Pack up and move? Or is it truely not as great of a place to live/work/party as it seems everytime I visit? HELP MEEEE PLEASE

Do you visit the off-strip neighborhoods and mingle with locals when you visit?

Well since we have casinos here. Serveral people have made the leap of faith and just tried it out. Most seem to like it.They say traffic is terrible. But everytime I go they usually meet me on the strip for whatever the night holds. So no I havnt even got a clue about how outside area is

That was my suspicion. Whatever you think it's like off the strip, it probably isn't the way you imagine it. It would be WELL worth your trouble to soak that experience in first.

Most definitely come visit for a while before you officially move here. So many people I sponsor are surprised when they move here.

Here is a thread that shows the regular side of Las Vegas.

As you will see, LV is like any other city outside of the strip.

I spent several years in Memphis/Tunica prior to coming to vegas... they couldn't be more worlds apart.

But, like most places in america, it's not like moving to mars... it's just another city with all the nuances and foibles most all large communities have.

One thing is prepare yourself for a cultural awakening, there is NO southern hospitality out here... it's more akin to dog eat dog, more so than even California.

If you are strong, you will survive.

Since you're still making plenty of money, pick a slow time at work and book a few nights at Sunset Station. Rent a car. Drive around Henderson. Go shopping. Talk to people. Look around at neighborhoods. Preferably do this trip in July. It's EASY to love Las Vegas in March, April, October and November. Try this place out in July or August.

And don't spend too much time with your friends. You're unlikely to see them very much after you move here -- unless they're your roommates. People work crazy hours at casinos. It's tough to make plans when you're working on-call/steady extra.

Better to experience it for yourself than asking us. That's for sure. We can't make up your mind for you.

Then they'll be missing 'I Will Survive' by Gloria Gaynor.
