Took OC to Oscar's for his birthday. Initial impression - not ready for prime time.

We had an initial drink at the bar. OC thought his was good, my gimlet was only so so. They seated us on demand in the window seat promised. It is a nice environ. You can see right down the Fremont Street Experiece. Great spot to rubberneck.

Service was sllllowwww. The waiter was attentive and looked like a minor hood. Knew his stuff. We started off with the sea food plate appetizer. Don't. It was all edible but there was not very much. For $24 they should do a little better.

We were very relaxed and not in a hurry but...

Twenty minutes later he came and got our main order. I had their halibut special with a baked potato and OC had the 12 oz. Filet.

Half an hour later the dishes showed up. The halibut was cold and the baked potato had that ugly green/brown color of being warmed too many times and was also mildly chilled. OC's filet was between warm and hot.

They took away the halibut and potato. Ten minutes later they returned with the halibut at least warm. The potato was still cold. Another try on the potato got it to almost warm so we gave up and ate a part of it.

They apologized a bit and comped coffee and a couple of deserts...probably the best thing of the evening.

Watching it for the three hours we were there they were not in control in the kitchen. And their systems did not work. We saw a dozen items delivered to the wrong table during our meal.

OC says the Broads did not get to a Las Vegas 7. Young and competent...but no vavavavoom.

We are going to try it again next summer. It is a nice venue. But let them straighten it out on the tourists.

I am glad to see a review. I had wondered what it was like. My contact inside Plaza said they did not have the menu really together until the day of launch. I'm sure the kitchen was a cluster the first few days. I guess it has not gotten better.

My husband took me to Oscar's for my birthday and I was also disappointed same kind of service. They did a really nice job on the bar and the views are always great even if not seated at the window. I am not sure what the broads were doing they had trouble walking up the stars a few times the waiters had to help them. And for the most part most of the broads stood around an visited with the other staff. There was only one that I saw that made any attempt to visit people dining.

They better get their act together fast the prices are very high, and the service is slow and the food is cold. You only have one time to make a great impression and it's usually the first.

So true. It would be fantastic if that place could become a success--another historic link to Oscar and his reign. Hopefully management hears the complaints and turns things around quickly.

BTW, happy birthday to OC and good to hear from you, Admiral!

not so surprised. it can take a restaurant a few months to get it right... provided they have enough capital to make it through the rough patch.

hopefully little by little they improve.

not really sure tourists will really see any appeal to the place though.

I agree. Most tourists wouldn't even know that this restaurant is owned by a former "mob connected" mayor of Las Vegas. So many good restaurants in Las Vegas with excellent service..........this place better get its act together soon if it hopes to survive.
