Are the fish caught in Lake Mead OK to eat? What about other nearby lakes?

Yes the fish in Lake Mead are safe to eat, as are fish in other lakes and streams in the state. This site will tell you everything you want to know about fishing and hunting in Nevada. NDOW - Nevada Department of Wildlife

Safe to eat? Sure.

Tasty -- so, "OK" to eat? No.

When was the last time anyone saw, "locally caught Lake Mead fish" on a menu?

If I was in a "Man Versus Wild" situation I would definitely scarf down whatever was swimming around in Lake Mead.

Trout are stocked in Floyd Lamb, Lorenzi, and Sunset parks in the winter. Echo Canyon and Eagle Valley are nice in the summer. NDOW has a guide by area about fishable waters in each region of the state. Here's the southern area lakes:

My favorite place for trout is Echo Canyon. The biggest one I ever caught , about 2 lbs, was at the area formerly known as Sunnyside. Willow Beach used to be good for trout. Don't know if it still is. There's a lot of stripers below the dam now that eat them trouts.

Another nice trout lake is in Central Nevada, Lander County, north of Round Mountain in Kingston Canyon. I think it's called Groves Lake. Nice camp grounds. Pretty remote though.

There are some nice places to fish in southern Utah that are just as close. You need to stop at a sporting goods store for a license. We used to buy the three day permits.

There is no commercial fishing allowed in Lake Mead so you will never see any on a restaurant menu as that's illegal. There are limits as to how many fish you can keep. They are liberal rules, but the fish caught there are for private consumption. Stripped bass are good to eat, but you can catch large mouth bass, small mouth bass, crappie, blue gill, and catfish. There are trash fish too that you'd want to bring in and dispose of for the good of everyone. I think you can still catch trout, but the other fish eat them, so I don't think there are many except right after the rangers stock them. Not sure if that's Nevada Fish and Game, Arizona Game and Fish, the Feds, or a combination of all three. Trout can't spawn in Lake Mead due to warm water temps, but get out there during bass spawning season in the shallows and catch all you can eat.

Lake Mead is not polluted.
