The problem with the drop out statistics is they are not accurate. For some reason, kids who move out of state are counted in these statistics as dropouts. So, if 1000 freshman enter and only 500 graduate at a Nevada school, the other 500 are considered dropouts. I was concerned about the dropout rate as well and was speaking to a dad whose son was in my sons class. Apparently he is active in school boards and has a relative who worked in the admin department for ccsd. How true it is, I don't know but it makes sense. I imagine cities near military bases would have high "dropout" rates as well. I am happy with the schools so far but I have only lived here two years.

Living in Henderson, I must have missed all of the adult themed stores on every corner. Must keep my eyes open. Yes, there are slot machines in the grocery store but I use it as a teaching lesson for my boys. They know they are a bad choice because this is what I teach my kids. If you are involved in your kids lives, I think your kids will be fine here. You can choose whether or not to go to the casino or the strip with your kids.

The only way to see if this town is right for your family, you will need to plan a visit. Living in Henderson to me is not much different than other places I have lived(we are military).

If it quaks like a duck, it's a duck! Don't sugar coat Vegas. It is what it is. If families want to move their families here, please do. If you like poor schools, $350 electricty bills, high insurance rates, terrible water quality, high unemployments, bars on every corner, etc.....................move here. I'm just calling it how I see it. That's why I always suggest to people to come out here and talk to the locals before they move here.

Anyplace is good when you have a decent income and a decent attitude.
Any place sucks if your attitude sucks!

Sorry, I have to disagree. Move to Mogadishu and tell me how far a good attitude takes you. Some places are better than others. There's no getting around that.

People's perception about this city depend on their situation. A retiree, with no children, who paid cash for his or her house, who has a steady income stream and good health insurance is going to feel differently than someone who has a mortgage, children, and is stuck in a lower-income area with bad schools and no health insurance.

So the person who thinks Las Vegas is great, and the person who thinks it sucks can both be right.

^^^^ Well a decent income in Mogadishu might mean enough income to have walls security checkpoints and a security force around your property! My statement stands.

100% Agree. if you insist on being miserable you will be miserable, even if you live in a paradise. Change your attitude and change your life!

in 100% total agreement......

I lived in the Atlantic City area for 8 years in the 80's....I hated the place with a passion but realize that for OTHER people it was paradise....

Scoop seems to think Florida is where God wants to live....i disagree but its his life....

I don't care if people don't love Las Vegas....differant strokes.....but learn to suffer in silence.

poor schools: not applicable to me... no kids
$350 electric bill... what does that look like... haven't seen one yet.... 2700sf, 3floor, with a pool, 75 degrees constant
high insurance rates....$247 for 6 months.. full coverage 100/300, 2012 Veloster, 500 deduct... progressive
high unemployment... sure ... but the jobs are there.. they just aren't what YOU want..
bars on every corner.. really... not by me...don't exaggerate... and besides you knew this before you moved here, so why move here if its not your thing?

calling it how you see it? get some glasses..
