Hello.

I am wondering if anyone has had any experience with this or knows of any stories heard from others about trying to sleep in their car probably in a casino parking garage. This would not be a permanent situation I am just going to be finding myself in between jobs and things are going to get tight in the wallet. I have a membership at a local gym so I can shower, shave, ect. every day there. Also I have no issues with getting decent sleep in the back of my car I have done this before while traveling out of state. My main questions are in two parts.

A) Will I get any flack from hotel security?

B) Is this generally going to be safe? I'm not looking to have someone see me sleeping and look at me as a mark and try and rob me.

I would be looking to do this for 2 or 3 weeks max as I can move in with a friend once his current roommate moves out.

Thanks for any advice.

A) Yes. No WAY they're going to allow this.

B) Yes, you'll be safe, until you're asked to move along.

Why not sleep in your car in your friend's garage until the roommate moves out?

Because he lives in an apartment complex with assigned parking. They are already using both spots given to his unit.

I do have an SUV with tinted windows in the back this might help me remain undetected from hotel security. I am not looking to do anything illegal and I hardly can see how this would effect the property in a negative way.

To be 100% honest I could find a couch to crash on for a couple of weeks but I am the type of person who does not like to impose on their friends. So this just seemed like a good short term solution.

Yes. I am not broke. I could afford to stay in a moderately priced hotel for 3 weeks.

I just don't see the point. I have things to do to occupy my time during the day. I'm just basically needing a place to sleep for around 6 hours. I don't feel like paying for a hotel to accomplish this for a couple of weeks.

I know this may seem drastic to some but I don't think it's all that big of a deal personally.

I just don't want to be bothered or put into an unsafe situation.

But I just don't know. I'm never really in the garages very late at night so I don't know how they are going to be at these hours.

In the end if I feel this is not a good idea I do have other options.

If you know you have the means, then you will eventually go to that moderately priced hotel. What happens when you wake up in the middle of the night with bubble guts? People will be coming and going at all hours, so your sleep wont be that quality. What happens when you just want to "sit down"?

I would speculate that as long as you sleep in a different casino garage every night that nobody is going to say anything about it.

First of all GO INTO THE CASINO and pick up something like a branded napkin, or brochure (to show you have been there), hang around for a 1/2 hour or so and then walk out to your car in the garage but act like you are drunk. If someone rousts you, slur your words and act very drunk. Tell them, "I washhhh gambling in the cashhhhhino (wave your napkin or brochure) but I had a liddle toooo mush to drink *hic*). Nobody is going to make you leave if you are drunk.

Now, in a couple of hours, the guy might come along and roust you again, so if that happens just go to another casino and repeat.

As for robbing you. If you keep your doors locked and windows up, nobody is going to be able to rob you. Make sure that if someone approaches the car that they are security or the police before you open up the window/door.

Seems to me that there must be a state park or some other type of government funded/sponsored facility where you could park without any problems.

Every resort I know of has security guards on bicycles patrolling the parking lot 24/7/365. They are not going to allow people to sleep in their car in the resort parking lot. It's a liability issue. And it makes the resort look bad. You will be asked to either move along or buy a hotel room for the night.

Why not just pick a 24hr Wal-Mart parking lot. They're enormous and they even have their own patrolling security vehicles (None of which give a damn about looking inside your car to see you laying down).

I'm not looking to live in my car. Just looking for pure sleep. Literally pulling in, going to sleep for 6 hours. Getting up and leaving. That's all. I could see how trying to live out of your car would be very challenging. I can handle things like showering and going to the bathroom. Really I could live my same basic life I am living now. I am only home for probably 8 hours a day as it is. One hour to unwind before going to bed. Sleep 6 hours. Get up get ready to leave for the day. I absolutely do nothing else at home. I don't watch TV at home. I never eat at home. I work out in the morning and shower at the gym. I am basically gone most of the time anyway.
