Hi everyone,
I'm wanting your information and advice on work opportunities for a professional Australian dancer wanting to relocate to Vegas for one month to one year to work.

I understand times are hard in America and work Visas/ green cards are near impossible to get. For this reason I ask is it all possible to work as a professional dancer (not a stripper) or perhaps as a go go dancer in the casinos in Vegas without one? Is there open casting calls for dance jobs?

I emailed multiple modelling agencies in regards to work opportunities and they all came back with the same answer that yes they would sign me to their modelling agencies, but I would need a working visa. But this would be for more of the events/ trade show work.

I don't expect anyone to sponsor a dancer as obviously this is not a highly sought after skill/ profession for international travelers in regards to employment. But how would one go about this? Is there any chance of moving there and being able to find an opportunity to work?

No. Not at the Casinos, at least.

The casinos play by the rules. They won't hire undocumented aliens.

Send an application to audition on one of the current reality shows. I believe there is one "So You Think You Can Dance?" They pay travel expenses I believe but what else I don't know. If you are really good who knows, it might lead to a career. Think Susan Boyle as a dancer. Good luck.

You'd probably have to be a stripper. That would work because the strippers aren't actually employees of the clubs. They pay the club to work there, and keep their tips. Since there's no employer/employee relationship, they don't have to do the employment paperwork.

PLUS you could assume a cool new name like Diamond, Porsche, Jade, Mercedes, etc. and pretend you're working your way through school.

But they DO have to get a sheriff's card and pay for a business license. (It's a long story how I happen to know this.)

Let's not jump to conclusion, forum rules mention that we all must have all the facts first. Could you please submit pictures of yourself in bikini preferably and we will let you know which off the strip casino will best fit as your new employer! :-)

Thanks everyone for all the fast and ammusing replies! I guess you could assume there is a fine line between stripper, go go dancer & 'dancer'. I mention go go dancing as ive been told there is a lot of that work compared to stage shows/ event based work and I did assume cash payment may be on my side there but of course I'd prefer a legitimate working visa, although sponsoring for any type of dance work I would assume would be difficult or near impossible to get.

I should have mentioned I'm classically trained with no plastic surgery so although stripping may not be in my genre, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be the right fit for that role anyway!

I'm also trained in other styles cheerleading, hip hop, contemporary, gymnastics... The list goes on. Gunluvver2 I do like the idea of trying for the reality show so you think you can dance. And thank you centauri also for mentioning the type of visa to look into applying for. I wasn't aware that there may be one suited for an artist that does not have an employer as such, especially to begin with. I sure dont want to be considered an undocumented alien! I will look into this further. You have all been a big help thank you

even if you work as a stripper, or even at the brothel. you have to have proof that you are allowed to work in the USA. regardless if you are filing your own taxes etc. Think the best thing to do is work for yourself when you come her put ads out in adult sections for bachelor parties etc. if you check in Craigs list they have a section for people who are looking to hire dancers for parties or poker parties bachelor, etc.......
