Well that is funny then! My husband was so freaked out at the thought of bee's inside.
So now I wonder if the honey is really raw...I guess not.

Bees don't just make honey that is automatically ready to be pumped out of a box. There is a process called "extraction" to get the honey out of the combs:

Quote:
Honey extraction is the central process in beekeeping of removing honey from honeycomb so that it is isolated in a pure liquid form.
Normally, the honey is stored by the bees on a very regular honeycomb they build on a frame. The frames are typically harvested late summer, when they will be most filled with honey. On a completely filled frame, the cells will be capped by the bees for storage – that is, each cell containing honey will be sealed with a cap made of wax.
Honey extraction - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

As far as raw or not, I guess you'd have to ask someone there at the store if the honey has been pasteurized or not. I did a quick google search and it seems like there is just as much controversy over raw vs pasteurized honey as there is over raw vs pasteurized milk.

I'm glad to see others here excited about the bulk foods! As I've said, that's my favorite part of the store - although it can be a challenge in patience if you get five or six shoppers (and their kids and/or spouses) in one bulk food aisle, all trying to get a turn in the dried bean bins!

@Cinebar, I know there is more to the honey that just the bee's making it and it drips out the spout. Duh! I just liked the thought that it could happen. I still like the idea of it though. I think people in here sometimes think I am just a dumb little 12 year old with some of the things I say. I have been accused of being a little brat. So, yes, keep thinking that. It makes me feel younger.

I'm sorry. I didn't mean to imply anything about you. To be honest, it was aimed more at myself than anything because I've seen the boxes and the warning about bees inside and I've never questioned it myself, never really gave it much thought and just assumed there were bees in the box. And I used to have a beehive!

So, reading your post was like a "Duh" moment for ME.

I didn't know there was fresh honey in the bulk areas. When I go to shop today I will check that out. I still have more to see at Winco than I thought.

You can also grind your own peanut butter. And something else - almond butter, maybe?

I'm getting ready to go do my once-a-month WinCo shopping. My 21-year-old son is going with me, so I'll have help with the bagging. YAY!

We also made some fresh peanut butter and almond butter. I love the bulk section of that store so much I want to live there.
The only thing I did not like was when we got home and found we were overcharged for 2 packages of strawberries. She rang up 2 at $1.98 and 2 at .98. They should all have been .98 each. The avocados are just 24cents each and they are very good! No stringy one's so far. Hate stringy ones.
Yay! Thanks for the reply! So difficult to find orange honey anymore.

What!?!? You mean bees don't just pee honey?

What is orange honey?

A coworker of mine has bee hives on her property and sells fresh honey as a side job. I buy jars from her.

You can find it at a roadside stand on US-95, just north of I-40 in California (on the way to Needles). I got some there recently, and it's very good.
