Look in Craigslist pets section to see if someone is trying to sell your dog for money. Post him lost in that section too with a picture just in case. Check Lied and also Henderson shelter because you never know where he could end up if someone picks him up.

He's back!

Organizing a neighborhood walk through did it. We went door to door, but ultimately, it was the flyers on the mailbox that did it.

Thanks, everyone, for your support and suggestions.

So glad to hear your little furry friend is back home, but PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE let this be a lesson to us all: responsible dog owners should ALWAYS get their dogs micro-chipped, collared (with ID tag for instances like this) and always keep them on a leash if they are not going to be in an enclosed area. Glad this had a happy ending because not all of these instances do.

Microchipping is a good thing, but not a 100% guarantee you will get your dog back. If someone has the dog they would have to take it to a vet that actually checks for chips. I'm sure if someone wanted the dog bad enough they could remove the chip, too

Nothing is a 100% guarantee but if your dog or cat is chipped maybe the person will take them to get scanned maybe not.. if they are picked up by animal control or dropped off at AF they will definitely be scanned. I doubt most people would remove a chip & besides they would have to get the dog scanned first to see if they even have a chip.

As someone who picks up random dogs walking the street, I can tell you that the first stop is a vet's office or Petsmart to have the dog scanned. My vet also scans all new patients to verify the information is up to date and has the correct owner. Please chip your pets.

You guys are absolutely right. It was such painful lesson to learn. He is getting chipped, tags, and GPS TODAY.

I have always thought of myself as an above average pet owner (which is still probably true sad to say), but I have not been as responsible as I should have. We were very lucky and I am very appreciative that no one admonished me even though I deserved it. I was punishing myself enough as it was, let me tell you.
