I'll be in town for a convention at the Red Rock Resort. Room special is a double for $119 per night ($60 per person). I'm going to start looking for other rates in hopes of still finding something cheaper. I was hoping someone could offer up a few recommendations as I've never been to Vegas and know nothing about the hotels/motels there. Red Rock is located at 11011 West Charleston Blvd. That's where I need to be on the 4th. Anything that will offer easy travel there by car or public transport works. I don't care if it's near the Strip or not. Thanks.

cabs will eat you alive.....rentacar would allow you to stay downtown and get a rate around 80 to 100 $

That actually is NOT a tremendously high rate....

You can stay here for $72 per night, and it is a very quick car or even city bus ride as it is only 3 miles from Red Rock Casino:

My original travel dates were May 5 to 8. I was finding downtown hotels to be about $80 a night weekends and as low at $39 weeknights. Like someone else said, renting a car is way cheap. Orbits.com had rates as low as $11 per DAY, good luck getting one cab ride for that cheap!

Sometimes in Vegas, it's cheaper to rent a car, then paying the taxi rates

Be advised that the Red Rock is a looooooong ways from either downtown or the Strip, and pretty far from just about any other hotel. You'd be better off to stay there where the convention is. I've been to many conventions, and it's always nice to be right there where it's taking place, and not have any hassles getting there on time. The Red Rock has everything you could possibly need, including several restaurants, food court, bars, casino, sports book, showroom, bowling lanes, and a multi-screen movie theater. And a great pool with great hot and cold running broads in bikinis ...and those are just the life guards and cocktail servers. It's one of, if not THE nicest, locals' casino, so we go there a lot, mostly for movies.

Go to the Stations casino web site. They are running a 40% off room rates.
https://rooms.stationcasinos.com They usually have a cut off date for reservations. Red Rock was included. Check it out and if you rent a car you may want to check out the others some are not that far from the strip.

Thanks. But FYI, there's only one (1) Rock; it's singular like Red Rock Canyon. We couldn't afford more rocks back then. Now the Red Rock in Red Rock Canyon is underwater, so it's good we kept it simple.
