Until you get caught spending most of your time in NV.

Here in Texas, I pay the same amount to register my '02 Camry and '13 Soul. Texas doesn't do sliding scale fees that is more popular in California and out West. My registration has gone up by a few dollars within the past few years. If the car weighed more, then it would be charged more. So trucks/SUVs are another category and registration is a little more and used to have a special "truck" plate until recently.

It's very dangerous to go out with the vices being encouraged by government officials/agencies, especially among tourists. I still couldn't believe all the personal injury lawyer ads on TV and radio. They do a brisk business with all the bad driving I witnessed when I visited around Christmas.

McCarran is a huge step up from Newark - I travel frequently for work so a good airport is important.
Too bad Vegas is not a hub airport. I flew American for my visit and realized that it might make more sense to consolidate the hub in LAS from LAX and PHX. Most people won't mind changing flights since they could make a quick stop at the slot machine, especially from bored travelers with long layovers. That should raise money for the state/local government.

You're joking right? The personal injury gig is far more lucrative and advertised in Houston, Dallas, and San Antonio than this comparatively small metro.

Allstate sums up where Houston stands compared to Las Vegas for drivers. You will have to scroll down a few pages below Las Vegas to find Houston, San Antonio, or Dallas.

I lived on and off for 13 years in TX. It is a good place to live, but to be fair, it doesn't have a reputation for safe drivers, low taxes, or a shortage of Personal Injury attorneys and their fat advertising budgets--even compared to the vice-ridden den of iniquity known as Las Vegas.

There are many direct flights in and out of LAS to small and large cities and LAS is one of Southwest's "operating bases" which is similar to a hub. I was the only one of my colleagues on a recent business trip to have a direct flight to Des Moines and they were coming in from major hubs. The only downside is these days my points are scattered among different carriers since Southwest doesn't go direct to a few of the cities I frequent for work, but I'm more concerned about direct flights than loyalty to a specific carrier.

Isn't there a new business tax that Nevada levied?

Based on Revenue (not profit)...

Bummer....

Yeah Vegas airport is great, has direct flights to multiple cities in Europe and Asia.

Most people go to Vegas for the cheap real estate, the weather or for the sense of excitement including the gambling draw. Used to be jobs at the top of the list, but that reason has taken an obvious breather for now. In the 90s people would show up having heard they could make a good living and own a house without even having finished high school. That really was quite a draw, but times have changed.
How does it not matter in the bigger picture? Do you make $30,000/year? Lol. In Oregon our state income tax is 10%. The difference between 10 and 0 is highly substantial.

My only real issue is that the vast majority of my investments are in OR and CA, so whether I live in NV or not, I'm still going to be forced to pay nexus taxes on where the money was earned not where I live. I only have one small investment in NV and another in WA, both no income tax states, so that doesn't really help much. My business, though, could be relocated to Nevada for tax purposes (and would be) and that would presumably make a substantial difference, clearly. Not to mention any money you already have, or you invest going forward, you're in a no income tax state.

I wouldn't list it as a primary reason on paper, but I would say that it's one of the top psychological reasons. It matters even psychologically because I simply don't want to live in a socialist state that thinks high taxes are acceptable. I have no interest in being part of that. I feel like it's tacit approval, to me it feels dirty, like saying, "This is ok what you're doing, yeah, it's alright to tax a bunch of extra money on top of already high federal taxes." No, it isn't alright, and I want to live somewhere that agrees with me that it's not ok. It's the principle of the matter as well as the actual cost.

I would say right in the top 3 is weather, and the final one is cost of living. Those 3 can't really be untwined completely, because the cheap cost of living (relative to where I am especially) combined with great weather combined with no state income tax makes it the ideal location. Otherwise, you could say Texas checks some boxes there, nice weather, similarly cheap depending on the place, no income taxes, but there's no Las Vegas Strip and those would be reasons 4-10, everything from great restaurants to entertainment options to the allure of what I think is the greatest place on earth. Stand on a balcony and look out over those glowing neon lights and that oasis in the desert and you know you're seeing something truly special. Every other city just looks mediocre by comparison.

Default Denver high cost of living, traffic & cooler temps is no fun.

Yes, I'm looking at Zillow for comparisons on living costs. I've always liked the Vegas valley warmth and I'm getting serious about moving there. My townhouse is paid off and I could move to Vegas and live cheaper in a warmer climate. Wow, what a concept! The Denver traffic is really crazy and living next to a freeway like I do isn't making it much nicer. I have to do obstacle courses just to get in an and out of my own street to get to my house at times. Tired of it! I'm looking forward to another fun Vegas trip in a few weeks and will be looking at houses and townhouses too. I haven't been to Vegas in a while, so I may have a hard time getting out of the hotel lazy river during the day to go house searching.

Income? We don't need no stinkin' income!

Sorry; I haven't had coffee yet & the first thing that popped into my mind is a parody of the 1948 film The Treasure of the Sierra Madre.
