I had similar poor reception problems. Static, snow, rolling pictures, etc. Hehe, I switched to Directv and it cleared right up. The picture is so clear with them I couldn't believe it was the same TV. My house is now COX (very appropriate name) free.

As it is Cox HIS Las Vegas makes it impossible to have such communication. I had Cox before about two years ago and discontinue the services due to lost emails etc. I got back with them on the 10th of this month to find out is not worth the pain to consider these services.

Today I was on the phone with a friend of mine from Vegas that has Cox HIS just like mine. We counted the minutes would take the email to reach me. Took over two minutes for three lines of text to reach me. And that is two computers on the same network, local routers.

Was suggested by tech support to upgrade to business service. The questions is why would business service work when the basic is not.

However, some people may be luckier so far I am one that has experienced only problems. My feeling is that the lucky ones don’t know what Internet means. Before this weekend, if nothing changes, Cox will get my message DISCONECT this worthless thing called Cox. These services are not worth spending the time to figure what is wrong. I am not paid here to be their tech or customer service rep rather I am the end user that needs services which they do not have so far. – This Cox HSI support did not reach me yet. Not here on this site neither in the real world.

May God Bless,

AHR,

I've been using Cox residential inet for about a year now, in two different residences. Like you, I'm a techie type who relies on their Internet connection to do their job.

I've had no problems whatsoever using their service for anything. I have to say that I'm actually impressed (a rare thing for me to say about one of the big players) with the reliability of their service. I also use SSH, FTP, SFTP; I run my own DNS; we have an asterisk PBX with about half a dozen trunks connecting to various providers via SIP and IAX... it all runs wonderfully. The downstream speeds I get are in line with what I'm paying for, as are the upstream speeds.

The only problem I have with Cox is with their pricing, primarily on the TV product - we're paying around $50/mo for basic cable w/no set top boxes!!

Since I'm not having any troubles with my connection, I might be able to help you troubleshoot exactly what the problem is with yours. At least you could try connecting to one of the boxes you're having problems with from another Cox connection that's not having any problems. PM me if interested.

I had a problem similar to the "pixilization" of the digital box. However it was with Comcast cable out east. it most definatly is NOT your tv. The first thing they did was diagnose it over the phone. They checked the signal through the line. AOK there. They sent a tech out to check the line coming into the house, and put a booster on it. That took care of it to a point. Finally they changed the box. Three boxes and new line into the house later. We had no problem after they ran us a new line and gave us a new box. When we upgraded to HD, the nimrod behind the desk said that none of their boxes have HDMI cable outputs on them LOW AND BEHOLD, there on the back of the box was an HDMI output. So don't always trust the idiot behind the desk. Not all of them are, but about 75% of the people behind the desks don't knwo what they are talkinga bout. So if you are experiencing cable issues, its more than likely the cable coming into the house, and your box. Hope this helps

We have had cox internet for two years now and have had nothing but issues. We loose service at least three times a day and when we call cox cable they kept saying that we had a high packet lose. When they would send out techs they would tell us its the box outside and that the box needs to be replaced which is a cox cable problem. In the past 2 years we have had 5 techs of their come out and look at our computers and our equipment and each one of them told us its the box outside. Now supposedly the they sent someone out this past December to fix the problem (we saw the guy here and watched what he did and he did not replace the box) and once again we are having the same issues. And now they are saying it our computers. We have four systems hooked up, 2 are wireless connections. They are sending someone out tomorrow to fix the problem.
Cox cable sucks, their customer service also sucks. We keep getting blamed for their equipment not working. We are to the point where we are going to cancel and go back to DSL. We also have cable tv through them and half the channels are fuzzy or have that ghost affect and we are told that the two have nothing to do with each other. If they don't fix the problem we are cancelling all services with them and I am also writing to the Better Business Bureau and complaining. I have lost business due to this problem. And I am also thinking of maybe small claims court because we did the smart thing and wrote down everytime the internet went out and everytime a tech came out and everytime we called cox cable.

Even though it's not as active as it used to be, check out the Cox cable newsgroup at: cox.internet.community.lasvegas
Go in and post about the crappy reception and other problems. If you post your nearest cross streets, for some reason, reception gets cleared up within a day or two. Weird but true.
It could be something to do with the main connector in your neighborhood, not necessarily the box right outside. Many times that IS the problem. I don't know where they hire their techs from, but most know less than I do and that's kind of scary.
