...is on this forum.

In my day-to-day life here in Centennial Hills, I experience mostly happy, nice people. This is true in my neighborhood, my own friends, clerks and customers I run into at stores, when we go out to a strip casino for a night out, local restaurants, etc...even DMV employees! There are exceptions, of course, but the rule is very positive, in my experience.

Granted, I'm not involved in a community of people who got laid off from casino or construction jobs, but my particular suburban area of town is absolutely representative of the real-estate situation (underwater owners, etc). My neighborhood on the outskirts of town, built in 2006, is composed of 3/2 and 4/3 houses currently in the $100k-$150k range, and I'd say more than 75% of the houses have changed hands in the last 3 years. And again, my experience in the neighborhood and surrounding area is very positive.

This forum provides a fantastic outlet for negative people with time on their hands to vocalize about it. Happier people are probably, on balance, spending less time contributing to these threads and more time with their families, friends, and careers. As with many things in life, a particularly vocal minority can easily skew perception.

That said, I'm probably not going to be hitting this forum much for a while. :-)

Exactly. You make life what you want. There are a few very very negative people on cd, if they think it's sooooooo bad, they should move

Very true that the representation of the people on this forum are pretty negative, but I like it. Keeps this place interesting. If everyone was 100% positive 100% of the time, this place would be boring.

I feel that there is a good mixture of good and bad with more leaning towards the bad side. I like Vegas because of the big family I have out here and all of the business opportunities that you can not find anywhere else. Weather is manageable. People are easy to deal with. The strip is around the corner. Mountain backdrop is great. Homes are affordable. etc...blah...blah...blah...

And Vegas sucks!

I only see very few people on this particular forum that are very negative. I think that someone can take the context of a message and turn it into a negative post when it was not meant to be. They can then think that everyone is being negative, when in fact they are not. They read the between the lines when they never needed to in the first place.

Most of my posts are in a joking nature. You can always tell if someone is joking or not, if they use a winking smiley. Or through an lol or an LOL or even a LMAO. That is supposed to be the rule, but some people in here forget to use it, then others read their posts and think they are being mean. Oh the drama! lol

Some men see things as they are and say why? I dream things that never were and say why not? -- Ted Kennedy at RFK's funeral.

I don't see things here as negative so much as I see people frustrated with not having the same services and amenities other areas of the country enjoy. Of course, that comes with a price tag, and many people would rather live in "Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome" before paying another nickle in taxes.

And since I'm channeling RFK, here's another: "A revolution is coming — a revolution which will be peaceful if we are wise enough; compassionate if we care enough; successful if we are fortunate enough — But a revolution which is coming whether we will it or not. We can affect its character; we cannot alter its inevitability."

I'd say we're already in that revolution, but cannot see it for what it is. Change is coming. Not the kind of change used as a buzzword in 2008. I mean real change. We cannot continue to survive as a species the way things are going. We're either going to change or perish. The longer we wait, the more likely this revolution is going to be violent.

Me, I'm still hoping for anti-matter or fusion technology to save us from ourselves. But that's a long shot. We'll see.

My wife, kids and I have been coming to Las Vegas regularly for 35 years. We usually stay on the strip, four days or so at a time. We rent a car and usually put on about 200-plus miles. We eat in all kinds of restaurants and usually see at least two shows. In addition, we shop at the local malls and other retail operations. We use the pools and other features of the hotels.

The people in Las Vegas have always been friendly and respectful to us. Upon discussion, none of us could remember a specific incident to the contrary. Certainly, some staff are friendlier than others, but most all treat us just fine. No complaints.

I have known many people who have asked me questions about Las Vegas vacations. There are misconceptions from folks who have never been there. But the best advertising for Las Vegas is a happy visitor.

I have said this many times before. The reason everyone is so nice to you is because they're PAID to be nice to you. Then, after a long day of being paid to be nice to people they'd rather just tell to f***-off, they all head home.

The Las Vegas visitor experience is just a skosh different from the Las Vegas resident experience.
