In Las Vegas. i have an Emerson 1.0 HP motor attached to a Hayward pool pump. It just hums. I've called 3 repair companies today and they all want over 500.00 to replace it. I am a woman and don't know where the capacitor is to replace it. Does anyone know anyone who does this on the side or can you walk me thru it? A whole lot of money if it is just a quick fix. Thank you.

FWIW, a new AO Smith 1hp replacement motor should run around $150-160, plus labor to install, so $500 is at least 2x what it should cost. If you were to buy a replacement motor at NPS, they will install it for a fair price.

You probably shouldn't attempt this yourself:

Let me google that for you

The capacitor replacement is simple enough that a lot of pool service guys could do it for you. I don't have one I can recommend though. Maybe AA702 can help you.

Its just a simple Capacitor (probably 30uf). If you need me to replace it for you send me a PM part is really cheap.
