Just wondering who are all the people who don't live in the best areas of LV. There must be some people who live in an older established area of LV, whose crime chart isn't in the green or yellow zone.

If so, where are you, and what has been your experience with crime, as that is the main reason people gravitate to the outlying areas. When I look at homes on line, I see some lovely older homes with pretty large green back yards, but wait…… They are not in the green or yellow zone, so have to forget that one.

Short of Green Valley and Summerlin, all these other Safe places to live are way on the outskirts of town and don't have the same shopping and short commuting advantages of other areas. If you don't have school age children, is it that important to avoid these areas?

It just seems odd that with so many homes all over Las Vegas, that the majority of people posting here are only from Summerlin or Henderson. Anyone not living in the safest areas want to share their location, and experience living there? How many times were you robbed or your neighbor robbed?

Would be nice to hear from some non - Summerlin or Henderson folks.

Over the past 10 years, I've lived in the following areas:
2001-2006: 89115 (Craig rd & Walnut) the area was OK early on but it quickly deteriorated
2006-2010: 89031 (Losee & Washburn) That area was great early on. It's still an alright area. Biggest problem is the school district.
2010-2012: 89131 (Decatur & Grand Teton) That area is excellent! Great parks, people jogging and riding horses all the time. Schools aren't half bad. It's a little far from shopping centers but I didn't mind.

Best is highly subjective. I personally don't care for Summerlin outside of a few gated communities within gated communities, i.e. The Ridges. I purposely live where I live based on proximity to the strip, my office, privacy, cost, etc. safety is pretty much a given with any area I look but honestly I've never thought is this a safe area?

How safe? Who knows, but for the last two days I've gone to sleep with all my doors open. Woke up yesterday and it was 66 inside and today was 71. Now it'll stay cool regardless of how hot it gets outside.

North Las Vegas here. I never lock my car and often forget to lock my doors. I think I'm the worst criminal on the block. (according to the HOA), 89031

I was in 89108 for two years. Vegas Drive/ Rainbow. Had our daughters bike stolen and a grill. Neighbors had their car broken into and had to hear the police helicopter very often. This was in an apartment though so can't really say much for the surrounding neighborhoods. Walked to and from school daily with the kids and never had any problems. We are now in 89143 and haven't had any problems.

Well being an outsider considering "how safe" becomes a question. I am as many new Nevadans starting to weigh the benefit/cost of only considering these certain "acceptable" areas. I also value convenience and not having to drive 15 miles to a store or casino I might like to go to. I also like a yard, and some privacy (within reason_not looking for acreage) So, I guess it becomes a question of how bad is bad. If I have to fear living in my neighborhood, then that is certainly not worth the price. That's why I am asking the question to anyone who has not followed the advice on this board.

I think Summerlin is overrated. I live in Mountains Edge and it would have been better if the bottom hadn't fallen out of the market. It's still not so bad but the schools aren't that great.
