Actually, it would be great if someone could post some pics of The Lakes...and Desert Shores, too.

Here's a video I made for the OP. It's the pond by where the OP's new house is located.

If you watch it on YouTube you can get the HD version.

.

That's absolutely beautiful, but the HOA fees must be enormous to maintain that?

I would go look at it my self but I don't live in Nevada, so all the info I could get before I go down there is most helpful. Thx again.
Did you end up doing it?

On the west side everyone always talks about Summerlin, but The Lakes and Peccole Ranch are nice places to live (for Las Vegas) too. They are roughly equivalent in size to a single village in Summerlin. The location is great, three movie theaters, a half-dozen grocery stores, two locals casinos, all just a short drive away. Fry's will be coming to Boca Park this fall.

DM me the general area you're looking at and I'll hop on my mountain bike this evening and take some pictures for you, and tell you if it looks like any of your potential new neighbors are a-holes (i.e. renters who aren't familiar with the HOA rules). Your street might not be on Google Street View (mine isn't), but it might be available on the equivalent in Bing Maps (mine is).
Where do you own your homes in the lakes?

I absolutely loved reading these posts. I grew up in the lakes from 89-01. My love for this neighborhood is strong. Being a Dad now, I sometimes bring my little ones to the pond area (lake north) to see the ducks and relax. There is a rare design in this neighborhood. Houses and communities aren't made the same. It was so special growing up the lakes area. It's a big dream of mine to one day own the house I grew up in, or at least a home near it.. I would love to see my kids or one day grandkids play and grow up in the same neighborhood I once did.

We live in The Lakes and absolutely love it. We were surprised to meet and hear of so many original owners or, owners from the 90's considering the transient nature of Las Vegas.

We have had a number of houses in our immediate area sell in the last few years. Every one has undergone updating and renovations. The area is still doing well.

Forbes ranked The Lakes one of the most beautiful neighborhoods in the country in 2011:

Actually Lakes has it's own little shopping center with restaurants. One of our favorites is in there, Lakes Lounge, with fantastic prime rib specials on the weekends. We have a neighbor now in the big master planned community we live in and he formally rented out the house he owned in the Lakes because as he said, "The Lakes is just a neighborhood. It's a nice neighborhood but not a community. You have neighbors and do nothing more than wave at them. For the same investment of money, he now has pools and clubs and golf courses and tennis courts and a view lot. An entire life style change for the same amount of money.
