**Can anyone shed some light on what the norm is for your mstr bdrm door locks?

Flying back to LA, then driving to Vegas today (from Asia a good 24 hours travelling WITH toddlers!), wifey kind enough to tell me now she locked the mstr bdrm door in a rush and bailed. Now we're not sure if we can get back in.

We only have 1 key that we THINK only fit the garage/front door.

We cant remember if it has a keyhole or unlock pinhole sigh. Window is def. secured so no way in there. i'll try the credit card, door hinges, sledge hammer, locksmith if necesary.

It's your basic Vegas home, built 2004, NWest.

Praying our main door keys work somehow! Crazy we never checked

Don't sweat it a lot. Interior doors generally yield without much trouble and always yield to a stout kick. Shove big screw driver and pry. Credit card. Knife. Knife and hard push.

I can't really see a MBr door lasting five minutes against a dedicated assault when you know that you are not going to get shot at...

Worst case you have a $200 handyman task. Any good lock smith will do it without damage for $50 or $75. Settle the rate before he comes.

I would personally get it open with the toys...and kick it open in frustration if they did not work. YMMV

Take a credit card OR a metal spatula - (anything that's flexible, but still mostly rigid)
Slide it into the lock mechanism, with a rocking back and forth motion.
(working the card into the slot between door and jamb)

Sooner or later the locking mech should retract, unlocking the door.

THIS ONLY WORKS ON SLIP LOCKS, if its a deadbolt, your gonna have to break it,

Jonathan

Did you buy the house when it was brand new? Bedroom keys were often placed on top of the door frames. Run your hand across the top of all the door frames and you might get lucky.

Do what Mac recommends. That's what the locksmith did for my kitchen to garage door. If I knew the trick I would have done it myself =(. We locked ourselves out of our house on our first day of home ownership. A $75 fee that I would never forget!

In our old house there were little L shaped pieces of brass colored metal about 3/4" long ontop of the inside doors framing/moulding strip, didn't know what they were until one day the girlfriend & I got into an argument and she used one to get at me. LOL. I know now.

Our new house has the little pinhole locks, I have found that a tootsie roll pop stick or Q-tip works good to pop them open.

Did you specifically put a keyed latchset on your bedroom door? They usually don't come that way. If it's a normal interior latch, it will have a hole you can stick something in to unlock it.

BTW, I like the idea of putting a keyed, outside latch on your bedroom door. At night, you should lock it. If someone breaks into your house, they can't get into the bedroom quickly and quitely.
