I'm married with 3 kids, all in elementary school. I heard nothing but good things about LV until recently. I'm a massage therapist and hubby works in IT and has done shipping/freight work in the past. Is there opportunity in LV? Some of the comments I read can be said of Chicago. We have rough neighborhoods, gangbangers, violence, poor public school system, expensive houses (if u want something nice) and you have to know somebody to get a good job. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

It's like most cities in that you just can't outrun negative aspects of life, but you can limit the misery with a little knowledge.

LV is not known to be an IT town. If you want to get out of Chicago, I'd suggest having your husband do a nationwide search for cities where there are available jobs he's qualified for, and then decide which of those cities work best. I kind of doubt LV will be one of them.

Who does this? Really who would do this, ask for help in a City forum, what could we help you with?
Do you want help finding a job? At this time in NV there are 119,100 jobless workers. 11.6%
North Dakota has 2.9% , Nebraska 3.8% South Dakota 4.3% are you dreaming?
NV ranks highest in the nation do you have family here or something?

Moving to Las Vegas (or anywhere) without a solid job offer in hand, no matter how you feel about where you are now, would be a mistake. And, Las Vegas is not known as a hub for either shipping/receiving or IT. With the high unemployment rate they have now, as others have indicated, I'd look elsewhere.

I don't know what you mean by "IT" ... people seem to use the word to refer to different things. It might help to be more specific.

Yes, I know. But does that mean he'd be looking for an engineering position? Network installation and maintenance? Computer repair? See what I mean?
