looks like most homes feel ok with 7,000 s/f lot, even if it has a swimming pool taking up some space.

would you choose a larger lot for any reason?

I would like the larger lot just to keep neighbors farther away.

In most subdivisions, you don't have the option for a larger lot. And, larger lots come at a higher price. Builders would rather build more houses on smaller lots, if a subdivision is planned with the larger lots, they have to get some of that "lost" money back with a higher price for the large lots. (And, the homes on those lots are generally larger, too).

A lot of people what some room for their kids/dogs to run around on. It give the owner a feeling of spaciousness. And we won't even talk about horses.

Personally, I don't need so much space. Would mind a back yard wide enough for a decently lappable pool, and deep enough for a narrow pool and a decent covered patio.

I have dogs and most of the summer, they are happiest in the AC. Small lots make sense here. Less maintenance type work in the heat. As long as I have room for a pool and a covered patio, I'm happy.

The biggest advantage I can see would be the feeling of spaciousness. I will just get along with cozy because I don't want the work.

I paid 10K premium for a large lot on our new home purchase. The builder drop the price from $15k. It's about 8,500 s/f lot. I had a small car size concrete patio on my old home and I hated that I couldn't do much with it.

Also keeping neighbors away is nice. Between my house and the neighbors I have 20-25ft and the othe side of the house I have about 12-15ft.

Smaller lot = fewer weeds.

I'm just under 7,000sqft and it's not big enough.
.....and I like my neighbors.
Still....the more space I have the better.

Gotta buy an older home if you want some serious space.
If you can afford larger then why not go larger?
