It does affect the business, but no city can control this aspect. Every tourist driven location would love to have more and cheaper airfare access, but airlines aren't in the business of insuring cheap access. If a location would like more access it needs to draw more travelers willing to pay more for tickets to subsidize those wanting to travel cheaply, namely business travelers.

Agree with you. If you have to head out to Las Vegas on a particular dates, especially on weekends, it is hard to find a good deal. If you are patient, as you found out, you can do better than $500.
