I just went on a trip to Las Vegas and visited Boulder City on my way to the Hoover Dam. I fell in love with the cute, charming little town! I'm curiously looking into what it would be like to move there. What is it like living in Boulder City and/or near Las Vegas? Are there enough jobs/affordable rentals there? Do most people commute to Las Vegas for work? Is there enough to see and do there for fun? What are the locals like? Any info would be great!

It's one step better than living in Pahrump.

OK, I don't live there but I drive through Boulder a lot. It's about 5 degrees cooler than the valley. It's about a 20 minute commute to downtown. Don't plan on working unless you mean fast food, or are a solar engineer or happen to get hired by one of the small industrial companies in the area.

The town is pretty much like any other town ... in Utah. Seriously, it is a quiet smaller town with pretty nice housing stock, and a little bit of culture. There are NO casinos in the city proper, which some see as a real advantage. The people in town are very friendly.

Actually, there is a casino nearby - The Hacienda Hotel Casino. It is a real nice, quiet place that offers some good specials. If you want to give the town a "test drive", you can generally get a room there for $30-35.

I have lived in BC for 12 years. It is a great town in which to raise kids... As long as you're LDS (Mormon) or Catholic. The other church communities are seriously lacking. While the homes are generally older and formerly difficult to purchase, the market has opened greatly since the housing crash. The rental market is not as sweet as it was just a year ago, and plan on paying a bit more than you would in Las Vegas or Henderson. Schools are far less crowded than LV schools, but not much as far as diversity (with 80% white in the schools.) After growing up in California, the pace of life here is very relaxed. It isn't perfect by any means, but I wouldn't live anywhere else in Nevada.

Nothing to do with the quality of life at Boulder at all....
But...
The town recently erected a really cool welcome sign right off the 515 when you enter, and another down by Lake Mead when you leave.
This pic was taken before it was completed. Now it has 2 huge boulders on the sides.
Fitting.
I love Boulder. With exception of the Mongols who will rape and kill you, it's a perfect little town.

My mother has lived here for 14 years and we moved here in July. Our son just started Kindergarten at Mitchell. The people are very friendly. There are a few parks around town and it is easy to find some kids to play with. The biggest is Veterans park which has a splash park, BMX track, baseball fields. Almost always has young families playing and picnicking. The local swim team is very good. They have some great teachers.

Most people I meet here commute into Henderson or Vegas for work. A lot of them grew up in town so it says something that they want to come back and raise their families.

Im a bit confused by that statement. When I read it I thought you meant the whole town is basically a christian outpost in the desert!

However looking at this info here

Seems to state that only 2.25% of people in boulder city are religious at all. That would make for a very small number of either LDS or Catholic.

Can anyone confirm if that is that case or have I misinterpreted it.

Bad number between a third and a half. CD says 36%.

YOu have to be careful with these statistics...say Boulder City but it may be the basin. They don't always tell where the number quoted comes from.
