"Laundry. Outside clotheslines or other outside facilities for drying or airing
clothes shall not be erected, placed, or maintained on any Lot."

The U.S. Department of Energy estimates that 6% of the energy use in American homes comes from electric clothes dryers.

Yet many HOAs in Las Vegas, including the excerpt from my own CC&Rs quoted above, prohibit this energy-saving, ecologically-friendly way of drying clothes, even in a town whose climate couldn't be more perfect for it.

Would be great to have a state law preventing HOAs from doing this.

There's even a documentary on the trend of banning air drying across the nation:
Drying For Freedom

Has anyone here had a run-in with their HOA over this issue?

While its nice to have air dried clothes and economical and ecologically friendly, I don't want to see my neighbors #$%^ stained skivvies blowing in the wind.

Perhaps you should buy a home not subject to HOA rules.

While I could understand a front-yard restriction, many developments in LV are completely walled between neighbors.

I share a 6-foot brick wall along the entire boundary between myself and my neighbor, yet I can't even have a 3-foot high dryer like this?

Brilliant analysis.

Nevada has, in the past, reined in the powers of the HOAs when it conflicts with the public interest, as it did with Senate Bill 100 that passed in 2004, forbidding the HOA restriction of security/solar window shutters.

In a time when the Hoover Dam is reaching the limits of its energy output, and fracking for natural gas is devastating ecosystems across the country, it's irresponsible to ban such a passive, silent, and environmentally neutral activity.

Then how would anybody see it?
They can't go in your back yard.
Just do it.

A little one like that would be cool. With the high heat, little humidity, you can probably dry your clothes in half the time.
