I have a car with expired MN plates that I want to register in NV.

Will this be a problem?

Back story: I was going back and forth from NV to MN for most of 2010. Put the car in storage in NV while I went back to MN to sell my house.

It took over a year to sell the house. Now I'm back in NV full time and have a car with expired plates.

Thanks in advance!

Go to DMV with title and Nevada insurance. Get a movement plate

Maybe he should also take in the old plates. But, again, these are questions for the DMV!

THEY DO NOT BITE!

I know as they were my fellow State workers and we weren't allowed to draw blood.

Just go. They don't care.

I was just reading the other day the Nevada DMV rules for new residents and as I recall they will not register a vehicle with expired tags. So my advice is to to pay MN the penalty for letting your tags expired in the first place and then drive the car for VIN inspection with the required paperwork. Your mistake was in letting the MN tags expire in the first place.

So what happens if he takes the plates off? What are the rules for untagged vehicles?

I think you are reading it wrong. The DMV will charge a late registration fee but they will register the car.

I do think Airics is correct that the only legal way to move the vehicle is to get a movement plate. I would go ahead and get it smogged. Drive to the DMV. Pay up whatever and get a movement plate. Then go to the DMV check station and get the VIN verified. Then complete the registration. A little complicated but all the driving is in the DMV parking lot.
