. . that the unemployment rate seems to decline around the time that the unemployment benefits expire.

The comments tell the full story...

I don’t understand how legislators think that the slightly lower unemployment percentage is anything but people leaving the state or their unemployment benefits expiring. NO NEW JOBS have ever been created. I invite any of them to search for a job themselves to get in touch with reality…. how about an Undercover Boss where they can live off of the benefits and go through the same process we do to survive. I have never not had a job until this year. It is scary. It is depressing. How is the state going to pay for the new homeless population explosion that will be the result of cutting benefits.

In the news today 2,500 firefighters in Las Vegas apply for 60 openings….yeah Nevada must be “doing fine!” I hope those affected are letting our representatives know what we think!!
The weird thing about this economy is that my wife still encounteres about 2 people that quit every month or so. Even the $30k-40k and higher jobs. Not sure if these people find better careers, want to be a stay at home parent or just can't take the waking up early and going home late. I pass about 7 "NOW HIRING" signs everyday while going back and fourth to work everyday. I may start taking pictures of them and include them all in a thread.

Some truth in all of the above ...BUT, the extended benefits are tied to the percentage of unemployment ...not the other way around. E.g., they only extend the benefits when it reaches a certain percentage. AFTER it drops below that point is when the extension ends, unless they just run out of money; but that's not the case this time. If it rises above the cutoff again, they will extend them again.

He probably is making a big effort to find employment. The thing is, he needs to find a job that will pay his rent or mortgage, pay for utilities, pay bills he owes, put gas in the car, put food on the table, and whatever else he needs to live.
Wait until you are out of work. You will find that the majority of companies want you to apply online. They farm out their application reviewing process to a third party company. They look for certain keywords and automatically reject the apps. And most of the time, they never get a reply back.
Too many people are out of work, having exhausted their benefits, and are one step away from being homeless. Plus, for every single job out there, hundreds if not more people are trying to get the same job. Can you see the odds now?

This is the most ignorant falsehood that is continually repeated by people and media alike....do your research if you'd like to know HOW the unemployment rate is calculated.

Here's a hint...the unemployment office/benefit numbers have NOTHING to do with the calculations.

The numbers come from a sampling similar to the Neilson ratings.

Yes and we have found just recently the Nielson ratings are skewed to what they want.. So again I stand behind my statement..

And since I can only spew ignorant falshoods, here is another one..

Since you have no idea who I work for (could be any number of Government Agencies who calculate numbers), I am telling you that for every list or percentage based diatribe that is put out, there is way more guess work than actual brain power used to make the information you see....
