Tarantulas are very mild mannered, even though they look scary. The only tarantulas I've seen here in the valley were in pet stores. I've seen a wolf spider, which is another hairy spider variety, but he was actually cute with his long eyelashes.

My wife INSISTS that we will visit Gabbs, Nevada for their annual tarantula migration. She really should have chosen Arachnology instead of Education.

If anyone is up for a road trip to Gabbs someday, hit us up.

I don't have an infestation issue so if we can kill the pests we can get rid of the scorpions.
I've been spraying and killing black widows and roaches since we moved in a year ago. But we have never seen a scorpion or snake for that matter. So just because the food source is there doesn't mean you have every predator.. I have a huge fear of scorpions and snakes so I'll take the roaches and spiders any day. If you want to save the money of paying a pest guy then go buy a bottle of CyKick on Amazon for $50 and a $10 sprayer at Home Depot. It'll last you about 4-5 perimeter sprays (once a month) and the stuff is the same strength and product the professionals use. Don't even bother with the spray cans, that stuff is worthless!

I grow much of my own food. I'm not interested in poisoning the ground. FDR said it best, "A nation that destroys it's soil destroys itself."

I hope FDR used better grammar than that!

You also don't need to spray your soil. Depending on how bad of a problem you have, you could simply spray the garage and driveway. Setting up a perimeter there stops 90% of the problem considering that the roaches live in the sewers. In Vegas it rains like what... twice a year not counting Monsoon season? So the product would not even wash away. And if it does wash away it would wash into the sewers, not your soil.
