Eventually every thread turns into a discussion about the local economy. I understand that we can't have 5 different threads on one subject but seems that is whats on everyone's mind or at least it is so easy to relate everything to the down economy. So where is the official Las Vegas Economy specific thread?

On examination, there is no "Las Vegas economy" thread as such. The thread that raised that issue was put back the way it was. There are a couple of threads focusing on the real estate market, and several that start with job related questions.

Rather than discussing individual threads here, (why it was closed if there's not an explanation there already, etc.) please send a DM if you have a question about a specific thread. And yes, for those of you who were not as familiar with the TOS, as was mentioned, reviewing them is a good idea. It's not a bad idea for anyone. There is a general admonition in those rules to stay on topic. When someone comes searching for information on a particular topic, they get frustrated if they have to go through a lot of off topic discussion or chat looking for the informational posts. Sometimes threads can be split if they go off into particular different directions. Or, if that's not logistically possible, a new thread can be started.

This forum is not primarily a chat room(although the chat thread helps serve that purpose.) There is a tendency for the informational threads, at times, to go off into chatting and inside jokes that don't help the OP or others interested in the original posted topic find the information they are looking for. A little bit of that is one thing, but if it goes on too long, those threads may be edited.

Here's some useful excerpts from the TOS:

Please use the Search this Forum tool to find info you need, as much has already been written about schools, jobs, weather, crime, prices, rentals, walkability and other aspects of a location. If you don't find it, please sign in and ask your questions. New users should use the Search this Forum tool before posting a question that may have already been answered. Let us know that you have searched the forums, so we don't assume otherwise.

Stay on topic. Attempts to hi-jack threads by switching topics or going off topic will be deleted and infractions issued. This is not a chat room - when people hi-jack threads by posting messages that are of interest to only few people, the threads often stop being useful discussions of initial topics.

I hope this is helpful. Let me take this opportunity to say thanks for reporting the troll threads, but please don't respond to them.

Everytime we have a new active Vegas thread that lasts past 5 pages it gets closed for "this thread has run its course" or "OP's question has been answered" or "This thread is going nowwhere(even though there are some good debates in it)" We only have about 5 active ongoing contributive threads.

//www.city-data.com/forum/las-v...read-1507.html
//www.city-data.com/forum/las-v...ctures-66.html (BARELY)
//www.city-data.com/forum/las-v...arket-577.html (most active hands down)
//www.city-data.com/forum/las-v...-point-15.html (Making steam)
//www.city-data.com/forum/las-v...ns-too-19.html (Doesn't move fast but I get the most DMs and requests from this thread alone.

So to sum it all up, we all should chit chat occasionally. Look at some gorgeous photos that rarely get updated. Read/debate about the local real estate market. If you still have questions, take it to the rental market thread. Then hop over to the average everyday Vegas pic thread. At least this is what I do. Any new threads are a bonus. A bonus that does not last that long.

This thread may be around for a while...

And the one about "do people come to Vegas and not gamble?" Can not find it right now.
