Actually I have heard very similar comments on Kona tap water...bleach!

Not suggesting that is true as I expect Kona water is primarily rain...but people do have views..

Use a phosphate dish soap and it mostly takes care of spots. Major manufacturers stopped putting phosphate in residential dishwashing soap (it's still in commercial soap) about a year ago.

I noticed my dishes weren't getting clean and were getting all water spotted. I bought phosphate dish soap online (I use Bubble Bandit) and back to normal now.

Here's another vote for Lemi-Shine. Pick it up at the grocery store (cheaper at Wal-Mart). Add it to the dishwasher at the beginning along with whatever detergent you use, and make sure you're running hot water to the unit before starting the wash cycle. But you should be doing that anyway, no matter what else you're doing. Starting with hot water is essential.

Lemi Shine is the shiznit. I am not kidding.

Phosphates don't do anything to eliminate hard water spots...
