When you go downtown or on the Strip what do you go there for???

To hang out and people watch, gamble, eat, hang and drink, or go to the clubs...

Also am curious if you drive down the Strip or walk or take public transportation.....

Just curious..I have never been to any of the clubs, cause I do not do the Velvet Rope bit or drink like a fish....... and I am full up with celebrity craziness...

My wife and I like to gamble a bit and hang out and people watch.... and my grandkids love to go to the shops and look around...

And of course we like to try new eateries or buffets...

STRIP - Most all of it is accessible. Very Tourist Friendly.

Downtown - Fremont Street. City is working on more, but that's about it.

People watching is very entertaining.
There is not one single reason for a local(except work) to have to drive down the center of the strip. Unless they just washed and waxed their car, put the top down and want to check out the eye candy.

I mainly go to the strip/downtown to show visiters around or service some vending machines at Fashion Show Mall and around the strip area.

You go to the Strip for the atmosphere. I had been bugging my sig. other to go down to the Strip and act like we were tourists. On my to do list was see the volcano go off again, visit the conservatory at Bellagio and see their water show. He finally agreed one mild summer evening a month or so ago. I will never ask again. Had really not done the tourist routine for about 5 yrs. now and could not believe the decline. Rowdy, just a shade of two from being totally drunk young people drinking their drinks from those 64 oz. plastic glasses, pan handlers and Jesus freaks. I was so disappointed. I felt so out of place because I do not have pink hair, any tats and although I think I dress very attractively and had a short skirt and heels on, I was so out of it because my skirt covered my underwear.

Downtown can be the same and tends to be a lower price point but we did enjoy that the most. Some very good bands were doing impromptu performances and it seemed to in general, just be a happier environment. Checking out casinos was easier but being older, most of them had very poor ventilation systems and the smell of smoke was bad. Some really neat values though; $1 margerita's that were quite good and very decent $1.00 hot dogs.

Downtown is more for people watching and gambling for me. The older casinos there seem to pay out better in my experience, but maybe I've just been more lucky there. The problem is, at least the last time I was there, there are no benches along Frement. There's nowhere to just sit down and people watch outside the casinos. I suppose that is likely on purpose as the casinos want you inside.

On the strip, I always walk. I've done the monorail a few times but it's usually too pricy and inconvenient for me. It's a long walk through some of those casinos to the strip. I do a lot of people watching and just soak everything in. Even after being to Vegas a few times, I still enjoy exploring the hotels along the strip. I like to find a bench and just relax in the conservatory at the Bellagio, the atrium at the Luxor, the Greenwich Village area of New York New York, or St. Mark's Square in the Venetian. We aren't really clubbers either and show tickets are out of our budget to do more than one while we are there. But people watching is enough for us.

I love Fremont Street. It's more like a big street party atmosphere with live bands. Less walking, cheaper drinks and food. Last time I stayed at Four Queens and LOVED IT. My room was about 3 minutes to the party outside. I love that the casinos are smaller; much easier to get where you are going. And when you check into your room, you are right at the elevators. No walking a maze through a smoky casino with your suitcase.

I can't imagine they would ever put benches on Fremont Street. Homeless people would just sleep on them!

The strip is fun and a must see, but LOTS of walking. Just getting through the casinos can be exhausting, not to mention walking from one to the next.

I'm not a club person, so I think that is why I prefer the atmosphere downtown.

I go to the strip when:

Work dictates it
Guests at our house want to go
We are going to see a show that is at one of the hotels

I go downtown for anything else.

I prefer Fremont Street. The Strip has more flash, but I have always felt more appreciated downtown. The hotels don't have 7,000 rooms, and they seem grateful for youe business. I stayed at the Plaza for years before moving here, and I dealt with a lot of the same people over the years. It just seems a bit more personal.

I agree with most. Fremont for fun. Strip for seeing the different hotels/casino stuff. Shops. Shows.

The Strip does not make me feel uncomfortable, by any means, as far as the people there. But, usually I am on a mission to see something particular, so I don't pay a whole lot of attention to others.

Good point. I never thought about that. I just always assume everything is to keep me inside the casinos instead of outside not spending money!
